My name is Belinda Carson, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Texas. Over 20 years, I have gained extensive experience as a Mental Health Therapist, specializing in working with a diverse population of children and adolescents. A cornerstone of my practice is the incorporation of artistic self-expression, which provides a safe and nurturing environment for self-reflection, personal growth, and the management of mental health issues. In my approach to counseling, my primary objective is to tailor my methods to the unique needs of each client. To achieve this, I draw from an eclectic array of modalities, encompassing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Art Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. I believe in the power of holistic and client-centered care to facilitate meaningful and sustainable healing journeys for individuals under my care.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the initial session, we will begin with introductions to get to know each other better. Following this, I will explain the concept of confidentiality and outline the structure of our counseling sessions. Here is a detailed breakdown of what each session will entail: Step 1: Emotion check-in - We will start by discussing how you have been feeling since our last session. This will help us understand your emotional state and progress. Step 2: Goal setting - We will collaboratively set a goal for the session. This goal could be related to addressing a specific issue, working on a particular skill, or achieving a personal milestone. Step 3: Introduction of the target activity - I will introduce an activity or topic that we will focus on during the session. This could be a therapeutic exercise, discussion on a specific topic, or exploring potential solutions to a challenge you are facing. Step 4: Directive for the counseling activity - We will set a directive for the counseling activity, such as engaging in a guided meditation, watching a short educational video, engaging in a creative exercise, or participating in a book read-along. This activity is aimed at promoting insight, self-reflection, and progress. Step 5: Closing discussion and takeaway assignment - We will have a closing discussion to summarize the session and reflect on the insights gained. Before concluding, I will provide you with a short takeaway assignment that you can work on until our next meeting. This assignment will be designed to help you apply what we discussed in our session and make progress towards your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My professional journey has been incredibly diverse, allowing me to gain a wide range of experiences that have enriched my understanding and skills. Working closely with families to provide them with the support, guidance, and empathy they need has been an immensely fulfilling and humbling experience. I am deeply committed to embodying a caring, genuine, and non-judgmental approach in all my interactions. It is a priority for me to meticulously create a warm, inviting, and secure virtual space for my clients who seek counseling. This environment ensures that they feel comfortable and valued throughout our sessions, fostering trust and openness in our therapeutic journey together.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

In my practice, I include a Trauma-informed care approach that takes into account the unique needs of each child's needs. My focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment and building resilience.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-behavior therapy is an essential tool in my practice. With CBT, we can work on identifying and changing thoughts and emotions that can negatively affect a child's behavior.

Play Therapy

Play directives and expressive art practices can be therapeutic for children experiencing difficulty in identifying, expressing, and coping with their emotions. Play and art as expressive tools can help children as they learn to self-regulate big emotions. Play Therapy and Expressive Art Therapy are research-based supported practices incorporated into my practice.
