Hi, I am Diane Smith, a licensed practicing counselor, in Pennsylvania. Congratulations for making the decision to do therapy. I have worked in clinical counseling psychology for 14 years. I love to help people achieve their goals. We all go through difficult times and I am trained to help people overcome obstacles. Together we can work on the issues that are holding you back. It doesn't matter if it's anxiety, depression, you're burned out, poor boundaries, OCD, addictions, relationship issues, grief, and loss you name it we can handle it. You deserve to live your best life. If you are new to therapy don't worry. It's like talking to a good friend who is legally bound to not share a word you say. There are 3 reasons when I am legally bound to report, since I am a mandated reporter, 1. You threaten to kill the president 2. You threaten to harm yourself. 3. You threaten to harm someone else. Also, you won't be judged for anything you tell me. People do what they do for many reasons. Most of my clients say that I am very easy to talk to and that they feel safe sharing with me. I hope that you give me a shot! I look forward to going on a journey with you. FYI*** Please give 24 hours advanced notice if you can not attend an appointment or you will be charged $50.00 Also, If you do not show up for an appointment you will be charged $50.00 as well. I only get my hourly fee if I meet with the client for the allotted time. If the client does not show I don't get paid. Thanks for your time, Diane Smith

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we will start with brief introductions and then dive into the specific challenges that you are facing. This will help me develop a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am told by my clients that my biggest strength is being very easy to talk to about anything and everything. They never felt judged by me. I am very laid back but I also have very good clinical skill sets. My clients usually trust me enough to comply with my suggestions to help them achieve their goals. My clients tell me that I am a therapist who also feels like a good friend who is not afraid to challenge them when they are ready to be challenged.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a very well researched and has great outcomes with most people. We discuss your issues and goals for yourself and then work up a plan to achieve those goals. EG. Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviors. You will begin to examine your thoughts more closely about a problem and then check them to see if those thoughts are true. Once you have corrected your thoughts on the subject you will feel and behave differently. This reads like it's difficult to achieve but it is actually very easy. It just takes practice but you should see results within the first week.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have taken courses on different therapy modalities. So at times I use a mixed bag of treatment techniques. ACT is very similar to CBT. You pay attention to you thoughts and change your thoughts which change your feelings and behaviors. ACT emphasizes that you current reactions were due to certain circumstances. You accept what was and move on to what is best for you and your goals now. You accept what was and move on to what you aspire to be. For me this is almost identical to CBT or how I do therapy.
