Becoming a therapist was my first choice, a passion I discovered during my sophomore year as an undergrad. Of course, it was not my first major, as I thought I would attend medical school. However, due to a car accident, I had to take a break from classes with laboratory courses, which led me to psychology. The best methods to pique anyone's interest are, in my opinion, abnormal psychology and personality psychology; they started my passion for learning more. After earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, I applied for my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialty in Latino Family Studies. At my first internship, my mentor placed me on my trajectory of working with children with trauma. Eighteen years later, I am passionate about learning everything I can and doing as much research as mental health evolves its approach to treatment. Being one who loves learning, this is a perfect fit for me, as you can never know everything in mental health treatment. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in trauma with a subspecialty in sexual abuse, working with victims and sexually-abusive youth. I help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, sexual addictions, sexual dysfunctions, and ADHD. Additionally, I am well-versed in many women's issues, including postpartum depression, brief psychosis, and fetal demise. I use Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Art and Play therapy, among other techniques.
In our first session, we will complete the assessment, see whether we are a good fit therapeutically, go over scheduling ongoing sessions, and determine treatment goals based on current symptoms and diagnosis.
I would have to say my area of strength is trauma; I have done work with adults, children, and couples. I have worked with military personnel and their families. I have worked with sexually abusive youth and situational offenders. I have worked with non-offending parents and conjoint family sessions, reuniting the family when possible. Yet trauma encompasses many symptoms which manifest differently in the individual, which is why I feel I have had a strong foundation with my experience as a clinician.
Children above the age of 5, adolescents, and adults, Sorry currently not taking Couples.
