I'm a licensed mental health provider that has been practicing for over 24 years. I completed my graduate training in 2000 at Florida International University and began practicing as a clinical psychotherapist. I am also a Board Certified Diplomate in my field which is a distinction that goes beyond state licensure. I am an approved/certified and registered provider of evidenced based psychotherapy practice by the National Center for PTSD for the treatment of all traumatic disorders. These modalities include; assessment and provision of Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy. My experience includes private practice, pediatric and adult hospitals, not for profit agencies, and substance abuse treatment centers. My strengths are in the provision of mental health treatment to individuals of all ages that include children, adolescents, and adults. I also provide mindfulness based therapy, family counseling, and marital therapy. I speak English and Spanish. Outside of behavioral health care and in my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children traveling everywhere we can, playing golf, cycling, and cooking!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Your first session with me will be different from future visits. The initial visit is a period for you and me to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature. For example, in your second session, you may explore a specific symptom, problem, or past trauma you mentioned in the first session.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I am trained in various evidenced based psychotherapies to include for example Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This therapy gets it name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of our personal control, and commit to actions that improve and enrich your life. Another one of my favorites is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This treatment was designed to go deep into a client’s underlying thought process in order to better understand how their thoughts affect their behavior. The purpose of this form of therapy is to change the thought processes therefore changing negative behavior. I am also a trauma informed therapist that employs mindfulness based therapy, and exposure therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

The treatment I offer is goal focused, individualized, supportive, empathic and respectful of the individual’s effort in changing and recovering. I believe that one of the most important predictors of good therapeutic outcome is the feeling that clients are in a partnership with their therapist. I work hard to ensure a solid therapeutic alliance with my clients and have had great success treating clients for over 24 years. My accumulating insights have provided me with a true compass that allows me to approach each client with respect, purpose, and hopefulness.
