Hello! My name is Mari (she/her) and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) practicing out of Minnesota. I have 7 years of experience working in various medical settings providing grief support, and adjustment to illness counseling with adults and older populations. I currently serve in higher education and l love working with young adults who are exploring developmental concerns and navigating adjustment issues while developing identities of who we are and who we want to be. I am passionate about mental health and I strive to create environments where folks feel seen, heard and appreciated for who they are. You will find a compassion centered environment where I will be your biggest cheerleader and help you overcome barriers so you can live in your values and be the best you can be. I use evidence-based practices and you will find I have the ability to meet you where you are at and also encourage healing and wellness.
In our first session together, we will begin with introductions, where you have the opportunity to share about what you are looking for in a provider. I will share a bit about myself but we will mainly be focused on learning about you and how I can best support you on your journey! I like to tell folks the first session will not feel like "therapy" but it will be a general get-to-know-you so your future sessions can dive into those deeper issues and areas of growth you'd like to initiate.
I believe in the power of empathy and bearing witness to the hard and beautiful things that happen in life. I am a great listener so you can count on having a safe space to share what brings you in for services. I believe in acknowledging your strengths and leveraging your own power to overcome and even accept obstacles you face. You have permission to exist just as you are and find acceptance! I am passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion and justice initiatives. As a Black woman, I understand cultural concerns and am passionate about anti-oppressive efforts and exploring what it means to belong as a people of color.
I carry this quality with me wherever I go. It's no secret that life has its many challenges and hardships. I believe in compassion-centered and trauma-informed care to acknowledge the value and unique circumstances in each person.
Strengths-based practices are foundational in my work. It's important to acknowledge the wisdom, and self-determination that each individual exhibits in their daily lives.
