Hi, I’m Kalyx Solomon: A Black, Queer, millennial, trauma-informed LCSW-C born and raised in Maryland. I obtained my MSW from University of Maryland, Baltimore, and have ~10 years experience working in the mental health field. I’ve spent my therapy career working primarily with oppressed populations (racial minorities, and LGBTQ+) treating a multitude of mental health issues including: Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, and ADHD. As a therapist I become part of my clients’ support system while they need it most. Outside of being a therapist: I love my cats, playing video games, making art, and trying anything at least once.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In a first session with me you can expect me to cover all the important rules surrounding therapy, tell you a little bit more detail about my therapeutic approach, and a little about myself to ensure you and I are a good fit for one another. From clients I usually ask you to share a bit about why you’re seeking therapy to help us collaboratively create a treatment plan, and I’ll definitely ask other random questions that come up as we talk just to get to know you a little bit better. Prepare to laugh, learn, and show up authentically.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My greatest strengths as a provider are the genuine care I have for my clients, my open and honest disclosure of my own mental health struggles, my truly unique and amusing personality, and my flexibility (built on the belief that each person is an individual, so methods have to adapt to best suit client needs!) In therapy with me you’ll get: education about mental health, coping skills, to the root of distressing issues, a gentle yet firm push when needed, and a fully judgment free space to learn and grow. My personality and interests outside of being a therapist make me a great therapist because I can literally talk with clients about a number of different topics. I’m not restricted to any particular approach to therapy, however I aim to operate in a trauma-informed manner using an integrated approach pulling from various evidence-based treatment modalities including EMDR (fully trained), CBT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, Brainspotting (phases 1 and 2), and some psychodynamic aspects. I believe that therapy is a joint process clinician and client go through together, at the client’s pace.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Often people avoid therapy with the belief that it will not help them, but I believe the amount and type of help one needs varies. I do my best work with fellow millennials trying to get a handle on life, struggling to really reach personal goals as the person you know you can be. I especially love working with Black, Brown, and/or Queer clients; but I’m best positioned to serve anyone who is seeking processing their past and creating a better future.

By far the best therapist I’ve had. I’ve been seeing her for about 5 years now and feel truly seen and heard. I’ve grown a lot working with Kalyx and would recommend for sure!
