Hi! My Name is Sandra Winans. I am a licensed psychologist and I am glad you are here. I have worked with teens and adults with a wide range of concerns including academic issues, anxiety, family conflicts, social issues, self-esteem concerns, and parenting issues. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1993, a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Disorders from UT Dallas in 1995, and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston in 2002. Basically, I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. Whether you are seeking a change for a more confident and joyful life or just need a non-judgmental ear to listen, I am here to support and encourage you!
Our first session will be an intake session where you can let me know what is troubling you and/or what you would like help with. Together, we will set treatment goals and a plan for future sessions.
Once rapport is established, some of the therapeutic approaches I use include solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. In our sessions, we will focus on positive attributes/strengths and your abilities/skills to help you achieve your goals.
My treatment approach is set on the idea of building a strong therapeutic relationship. This is accomplished by establishing trust and rapport between myself and my client. My counseling style is pretty laid back and casual. I have been described as caring, compassionate, and a good listener, with a pretty good sense of humor. I try and help clients focus on strengths, and help them use those strengths to overcome obstacles.
