My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

The theory behind Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) posits that attempting to control painful emotions or psychological experiences is counterproductive; suppressing these feelings often results in increased distress. Instead of striving to change one's thoughts, ACT suggests alternative approaches such as mindful behavior, focusing on personal values, and committing to action. By altering their behavior and simultaneously accepting their psychological experiences, clients can ultimately transform their attitudes and emotional states.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emphasizes the importance of accepting situations while recognizing the necessity for change. It acknowledges the ever-changing nature of feelings, many of which are contradictory, without becoming entangled in them. Therapists guide patients to understand and accept that thought processes are inherently complex and messy. DBT integrates both scientific principles and practical application in its approach.

EMDR

EMDR therapy shows that mental processes follow a similar sequence to physical healing. The brain's information processing system naturally strives toward mental health. However, if this system is disrupted or imbalanced by a traumatic event, the emotional wound can persist and cause significant suffering. Once this blockage is removed, the healing process can continue. As an EMDR therapist I use specific protocols and procedures to help clients activate their natural healing mechanisms.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that delves into the exploration and resolution of various sub-personalities or "families" existing within an individual's psyche. These sub-personalities encompass wounded aspects carrying emotional burdens like anger and shame, alongside protective parts striving to shield the individual from the distress of these wounded elements. Often, these internal factions clash with each other and with the individual's core Self – the embodiment of a person's intrinsic confidence, compassion, and wholeness. IFS endeavors to facilitate the healing of these wounded facets and reinstate psychological equilibrium and coherence by transforming the intricate interplay among the sub-personalities and the core Self. Through this process, the goal is to alleviate internal conflicts and foster a sense of inner harmony and integration within the individual.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a therapeutic technique designed to assist individuals in overcoming conflicting emotions and uncertainties, ultimately uncovering the intrinsic drive required to modify their behaviors. This approach is pragmatic, empathetic, and brief, acknowledging the challenges inherent in navigating transformative life adjustments.
