Hi there, I’m Shonda (SCTherapy LLC). You have made a big step today for your mental health journey. You started (or re-started) to look for a therapist. I can imagine you are hoping for changes in your life. Do you feel stuck and unsure what to do next? Overwhelmed with adulting? Do you find yourself in your head with racing thoughts and worry? Having trouble getting through each day? I empathize with you, and I am here to help! I am an LPC in PA with experience providing individual therapy to over 100 clients in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas, specifically marginalized communities, with struggles like Depression and Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma, Grief, life transitions, and relational struggles. Together, we will explore your mental health struggles and experiences, foster insight into how they could have originated, and develop a toolbox of therapy skills for you to implement in your day-to-day life. The interventions I use are person-centered/humanistic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I can integrate existential and spiritual techniques (i.e., weaving in YOUR spiritual or religious beliefs) if you'd like. Additionally, I am strengthening my therapeutic skillset to help you by pursuing a Doctor of Psychology degree (PSYD). I would be honored to take this journey with you!
During our first session, my goal is to understand what brings you to therapy at this time in your life and begin to develop a therapeutic relationship with you. We will cover your mental health history, expectations for therapy and more.
Person-Centered/ Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (completed training by the Penn Beck Initiative), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (for trauma survivors), Mindfulness, Psychoeducation, and Existential and Spiritual Techniques.
My clients and I will get into deep exploration in session, but we can also find time to laugh! Sessions can be dynamic, which I believe is representative of our lives. I also collaborate with my clients to assign themselves homework. I have a gift and a unique passion for this field. Fun fact – my career started in consulting with one of the world’s largest firms, and I transferred my skill set to help people with mental health struggles.
