Good day. I am Keith H. Johnson and am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas, only. I prefer meeting online as it is convenient for a number of people. Many mental challenges stem from a lack of self-confidence or identity. Anxieties, depression, and discord in relationships are associated with strained ideas about self and or others. Together we can develop a more confident you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we will begin with introductions and I am willing to answer any questions you may have. Hopefully you will be able to share the issues that are troubling you so that we can develop a treatment outlook and plan. This of course is adatable depensing on your changing needs as we progress in therapy. Please do not be afraid to ask questions and know that you are the expert on you. We work together for you and you are not a labled "condition" but a person in and of yourself.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work with many individuals who have had their meaning and purpose striped from them because of events beyond their control, early family and/or relationship variations, as well as life events. During therapy you will improve your own sense of self and possibly discover you for the very first time.

My treatment methods

Existential

One of the most important aspects of existential therapy is addressing the challenges of meaning and purpose. In existential philosophy, this goes much further and deeper. My experience with this approach assists people in exploring their own self-concept, self-worth, and identity. My primary focus in therapeutic approaches is just that, ideas about self,

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

As Henry Nelso Weiman once wrote, the person who knows one religion knows no religion. I use an abridged version when working with people, "If I onlw know one culture, I know no culture". I learn to listen to people where they are, not who I they need to be but want to be.

Eclectic

I was advised by one of my professors that eclectic therapeutic approaches should not be an approach. In this case I think she meant wide-ranging which can have no direction if misapplied. In meeting people where they are, in their own search for self, meaning, and recognizine cultural influences, I need to be eclectic in the sense of utilizing therapeutic approaches based on the needs of the person; accordingly I am concerned wtih people's motivation, goals, needs, expectations and problems. These cannot be addressed with a singluar therapeutic approach.

Reality Therapy

Behaviors often stem from choices and in this approach to therapy, together, we examine how some of the choices made generate certain behaviors. In helping to recognize the choices together we can overcome the symptoms of your problems. The behaviors are a result of choices so we look at how to effectively change the consequences.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-centered therapy, which is an important foundation of establishing a working relationship with a person. In therapy the counselee is the center of the dialog who with mutual respect is developed. It takes time to develop and I utilze this thera[y with every person in therapy. A great deal of progress is made in building and sustaining this connection.
