New to Grow
Hi, I’m Tashia Weekes, a trauma-informed psychotherapist, cultural sound healer, and spiritual advocate based in Maryland. I received my Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) in 2018. I help individuals navigate life transitions, heal from emotional wounds, and reconnect with their authentic selves. My approach blends evidence-based practices with mindfulness and cultural awareness, creating a space where healing feels both practical and sacred. I believe therapy should feel like a partnership, one where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow. Together, we’ll explore patterns, release emotional burdens, and build tools for resilience so you can live with more peace, confidence, and intention.
In our first session, I take time to get to know you — not just your challenges, but your story, strengths, and what healing looks like for you. I’ll guide you through a thorough intake and biopsychosocial assessment so I can understand your background, daily experiences, and what’s been impacting your well-being. We’ll focus on building trust and connection while exploring patterns and challenges that may be showing up in your life. I also provide psychoeducation throughout the session, helping you make sense of what you’re feeling and why. Many clients find that even in our first meeting, they gain new insight into themselves — and leave feeling both understood and hopeful about the work we’ll do together.
My greatest strengths lie in creating a calm, authentic space where clients feel seen, safe, and supported enough to grow. I blend clinical expertise with cultural awareness and mindfulness to help clients connect the dots between their experiences, emotions, and behaviors. Clients often tell me they appreciate how I can quickly get to the heart of what’s going on — naming what they’re feeling, helping them understand why, and guiding them toward clarity and practical change. My approach balances warmth with insight; I don’t just listen, I help you see patterns and possibilities that move you forward. As a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive therapist, I meet each person where they are — combining evidence-based methods with genuine compassion and real-world understanding to help you feel both grounded and empowered.
I’m best positioned to serve individuals who are ready to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. My clients are often managing stress, burnout, or emotional exhaustion and want to find balance without losing their sense of purpose. They’re seeking therapy not because something is “broken,” but because they’re ready to heal, grow, and create healthier patterns in how they think, feel, and relate to others. If you’ve been showing up for everyone else and now want to show up for you — to rediscover your peace, confidence, and clarity — I’m here to support that journey. Together, we’ll focus on building emotional awareness, setting boundaries, improving communication, and nurturing self-compassion so you can thrive without the weight of constant survival mode.
I use CBT to help clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. In my sessions, we explore the connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions, while also considering how cultural and environmental stressors influence these patterns. My approach integrates CBT tools like cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation with compassion and practical strategies clients can use in their daily lives.
As a culturally responsive therapist, I honor each client’s unique cultural background, values, and lived experience. I create a safe space where identity, community, and culture are integrated into the healing process rather than treated as separate or secondary. My work centers on understanding how race, gender, spirituality, and social context shape mental health, empowering clients to reclaim their voices and narratives within systems that often silence them.
I incorporate DBT skills to help clients build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I focus on teaching practical coping skills for navigating intense emotions while maintaining self-respect and healthy boundaries. My DBT work often blends mindfulness and cultural awareness, helping clients balance acceptance and change within the realities of their personal and social environments.
I use mindfulness-based approaches to help clients cultivate present-moment awareness, emotional grounding, and self-compassion. Drawing from both clinical training and my background as a cultural sound healer, I integrate breathwork, body awareness, and gentle reflection practices to help clients reconnect with themselves. This approach supports clients in releasing stress, reducing anxiety, and fostering emotional resilience.
My therapeutic foundation is person-centered — I believe healing happens in a space of empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I guide clients with the understanding that they are the experts of their own lives. My role is to walk beside them, offering reflection, encouragement, and tools that support their growth. This approach allows clients to feel seen, respected, and empowered to create meaningful change.
