As a counselor and play therapist, I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship is the basis of all that happens in the therapy room. Healing is not one dimensional, it occurs through growth in the areas of thought patterns, emotional experience, physical health, relational experience, systems we are part of, biology, and spirituality. Looking at the whole person is, in my opinion, the only way to change the behaviors and patterns in our lives, relationships, and in our families.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, the primary goal of for us to get to know each other. The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in healing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My clinical focus is on helping people get unstuck and find lasting change. I often see people who therapy has not worked for in the past. I am also comfortable seeing other therapist for their own therapy.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in complex trauma, dissociation, and attachment issues. Essentially I specialize in the “why” we do what we don’t want to, and what do we do about it? I use a variety of evidence based interventions including: EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS(Internal Family Systems), family therapy, play therapy, and more.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy intervention that helps us digest what traditional talk therapy does not. EMDR pairs eye movements (or other methods) with the imagine, beliefs, emotions, and sensations from an event, gently allowing us to not only lower distress, but also allows us to put the event into the context of our own stories.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is the process of providing therapy at the developmental level of the client no matter their age, or level. In play therapy, the therapist may use toys, games, art, or other methods in the providing of therapy. In Play Therapy, play is healing.

Family Therapy

E de Family therapy involves the whole family and allows for family members to grow together. Often times, the problem is not the problem, the problem is how we arrange ourselves around the problem. Nik provides family play therapy, for those families with younger children. Nik does not provide couples therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

An evidence based approach that focuses on how our beliefs about the world, ourselves, and others drives our present behavior. In cbt we look at and change our unhealthy thinking patterns.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach to therapy that views symptoms not as the problem, but instead as the result of positive intention, sometimes gone awry! IFS allows the client's internal system and parts of self to heal, and learn to work together as the client grows in self leadership. Nik is an IFS Informed Therapist.
