I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including on inpatient psychiatric units, residential mental health facilities, intensive outpatient programs, and crisis intervention hotlines. I can adapt to work with a variety of people and diagnoses, in an eclectic manner because one size does not fit all in life or therapy. I am comfortable with working with people who have episodes of mania, and psychosis, as well as people who are struggling with chronic depression. Whats important for me is what the patient wants out of therapy and we will use an approach we both feel will adequately address those specific needs.
First session we're going to discuss what brings you a therapy. I'll want to know your past experience with mental health providers, and what your goals for therapy are. Together we will go over what you feel would be helpful from a therapist, and I'll suggest my thoughts. We will create a schedule for sessions and a tentative treatment plan.
I'm very experience with a variety of mental health diagnoses both with and without psychosis. I'm flexible and down to earth, and will meet you where you are at in your mental health treatment. I'm also comfortable treating diverse clients, including those who identify as members of queer, poly, kink communities that sometimes have unique issues that can be difficult to discuss with clinicians without familiarity with those communities.
First time with a therapist and don't know what you're doing? Been to a lot of therapists and KNOW what works and doesn't work for you? Just had a first episode of mental illness that may have gotten scary or even required hospitalization and not sure where to go from here? I try to meet clients where they are at, therapy can mean so many different things to different people and we should make the most out of our sessions to reach your goals, or create those goals. Everyone is unique and I want to work with you, not talk at you, to help you be the person you want to be.
As a mental health provider who has worked with a large variety of people and diagnoses, i utilize a variety of treatment methods to fit the patient best. During our first Session we will talk a bit about your experience with therapy, what you hope to work on, what has worked for you and what has not worked and decide on a treatment plan that's right for you.
For some people, especially those with anxiety disorders, working on ways to stop our spiraling thoughts, and checking our negative beliefs for accuracy and helpfulness can be helpful. I've worked with a variety of patients in which CBT has been useful for them. I generally utilize CBT skills as tools in my therapy, but feel they work best hand in hand with other modalities.
For my practice I do not see families as a whole for long term therapy, but at will utilize family therapy for 1-2 sessions if there seems to be significant interpersonal difficulties impacting the client and/or for psycho education on new diagnosis.
I am a cis-gendered therapist, so I do not claim to be an expert on your gender identity, only you are. I have a lot of experience navigating the intersection of mental health, social services, and medical care systems with clients who are at varying stages of their gender exploration.
I have spent many years working in both inpatient and residential mental healthcare, and utilize psychoeducation often to translate medical jargon, and try to figure out what these diagnoses, coping skills, therapy types etc mean in your life.
