I am a licensed professional counselor with a background in the military, having retired in 2017. Since 2021, I have been working with individuals, couples, and families. Known for my laid-back approach, I utilize play and other creative techniques in conjunction with person centered talk therapy to enhance communication and promote deeper understanding and insight for clients of all ages. I hold certifications in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and Sand-tray therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our initial session will focus on establishing rapport and determining compatibility. I will provide an overview of the counseling process, address any inquiries you may have, and review confidentiality and related policies. I will briefly introduce myself and discuss my approach before delving into your reasons for seeking counseling. This will be an opportunity for you to share as much as you feel comfortable, with our main objective being to build trust and establish a strong therapeutic partnership in the early stages of our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have a relaxed and relatable approach that is well-received by individuals who may have found traditional methodologies to be challenging in the past. As someone who identifies as neurodivergent, I bring a distinct perspective that often connects with my clients on a deeper level. Utilizing creativity, a positive sense of humor, and genuine curiosity, I strive to help my clients achieve greater self-awareness and develop inner strength.

My treatment methods

Existential

Existential theory guides the Counseling process. What this looks like for my clients is that although we will of course discuss their past experiences and what is happening in the present, I don't typically forms on these areas- I will instead focus on what type of person my client hopes to become in the future we will discuss how the clients previous experience and learning affects the way they view their present circumstances, and how they can use their unique strengths to achieve the future they have envisioned for themselves.

Sandplay

Many clients struggle to express their feelings. Neurodivergent people tend to have had their words and viewpoints dismissed so often that they have stopped even trying to communicate their feelings and experiences. Sand tray helps externalizer the internal, make abstract concepts more concrete, and gives clients a degree of separation from difficult experiences that they are trying to move through. sand tray even allows me to help a client work through things that they want to deal with but don't yet Feel comfortable sharing with anyone else. I don't have to know what the client is creating in the sand in order to help them process the underlying feelings. My clients can share as little or as much as they feel comfortable and still benefit.

Couples Counseling

I have worked with many couples who are experiencing relationship issues. Many who come to me are doing fine and are just hoping to better their communication or are anticipating a difficult time ahead - military deployments, Illness, or parenting concerns I use strength based therapies to help each partner recognize their own to contributions to the state of the relationship.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I help clients achieve the future they seek by making changes in the way they think and behave. These changes typically have the effect of getting others to react more positively which breaks negative cycles often experienced by my clients.
