***Accepting new clients!*** Welcome to therapy! Congrats on taking the step to seek a safe and healthy place for you to process. I welcome you to my practice on the Grow Platform and look forward to connecting with you. My name is Dr. Joanna White and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Connecticut. I have my School Counseling Certification in Connecticut and also am a University Professor in Human Services and Social Work. I am a firm believer that therapy can be beneficial for all (I go myself!) and see it as a wonderful opportunity to grow and process “life stuff” in a safe and supportive environment. It is an honor to provide that space to my clients! We can talk more about your unique therapy journey and how I can best support you in our first session. I look forward to connecting with you soon!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with introductions, so that I can get to know you better and also introduce myself and my therapeutic style. We will then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan just for you and identify therapy goals for us to work through in follow-up sessions together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a very positive, solution-focused person and that translates into my work in a therapeutic environment. I work with clients to take control of their lives and choose next steps that work best for them. Another strength is that I have a diverse set of professional experience in K-12, higher education as well as the professional world, which brings unique ideas and solutions to the conversation.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Feeling stuck in your own head? Like your thoughts are a song on repeat? CBT is a wonderful therapeutic technique to help address how connected our thoughts, feelings and actions are. Be examining all of the above we can help reprogram ourselves to make positive changes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

In challenging situations, developing practical solutions together can help empower clients and move them in a positive direction toward their larger goals.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Taking the time to understand and embrace a client’s unique culture allows for culturally sensitive therapy that embraces the whole person. Building rapport and supporting each client as a unique individual is important in this process.
