Hi! I'm Carolyn. I know I'm probably biased, but therapy is one of my favorite things! I'm so glad that you're here and I am excited for the opportunity to work together. I want to work with clients who are ready and willing to make changes in their lives. Don't get me wrong, change is difficult, but so is staying the same. You may not know exactly what needs to change but being willing to do something different is a step in the right direction! Working with me, you'd be working with a motivated therapist who takes a vested interest in your life and needs. I believe in coming alongside you in your healing journey. I am excited and ready to wrestle with life's unanswered questions with you and to help you change your life! Please reach out if you have questions or are curious about the therapy process. It is not lost on me how difficult it is to reach out when you need help and I am honored that you chose to reach out to me. Let's walk through this together!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, you can expect us to spend time getting to know each other and exploring what you are wanting to work on in counseling. It is not lost on me how strange it is to talk to a stranger about your problems and I seek to make that as comfortable of an experience as possible! My main goal is that you walk away feeling seen and heard and excited for our next session! I don't have an agenda or set of goals for you but I am ready and willing to offer feedback where need be. Before we wrap up, I'll make sure your next appointment is scheduled and we have a solid set of goals/treatment plan to give us direction in our future sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths come with my ability to empathize while also challenging my clients. I very much believe in validation and acknowledging the difficult circumstances that have come together in the unique presentation you are struggling with. When we invalidate ourselves we often prolong our suffering. At the same time, there are some things that we may be doing or beliefs we hold that are perpetuating our suffering. I lean on the rapport we have built in the first several sessions to gently challenge some areas where a change of perspective or behavior might alleviate some of your present suffering.

My treatment methods

Daialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize a mix of several different treatment modalities by pull heavily from the DBT framework. I have been trained in the four tenets of DBT (mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotional regulation) and I find coping skills in each of these areas benefit clients with all kinds of presentations. I am a big advocate for learning about one's emotions and how to best manage them improve their relationship with themselves and others.
