Hello! I'm Mary "Katie" Romley. I'm an LPCC in the state of California specializing in therapy work with adults and adolescents. I have a background in working with folks who have experienced difficult life circumstances: family conflict chief among these. Safety and support are hugely important to me. I like to make sure that my clients can develop a sense of trust when working with me. I love working with young adults (18-25) and also people going through retirement life changes. Some of the topics I enjoy helping clients with career counseling and coaching, personal relationships, self-concept and self-esteem, healing from abuse, and working with and fully supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. I also love working with people to strengthen their own personal boundaries in life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I'll explain confidentiality, the therapeutic process from my perspective and answer questions you may have for me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Past clients have reported that they felt is was easy to open up with me, that they felt safe to talk about many different topics including sexuality and gender expression, intimacy, traumatic experiences, history of childhood abuse or neglect. Clients have told me they feel they've made progress in their goals, and that they feel more comfortable opening up with others in their personal lives after having done work together.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

I was trained in the model of client-centered therapy, which to me means that a person who is able to fully support and understand themselves can make any changes they wish to better their life circumstances.

Compassion Focused

I have a particular fondness for bringing my work with clients back to a compassionate space so that clients can learn (perhaps for the first time) that they are deserving of love, joy and kindness that they may offer willingly to others and less so to themselves.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

The more I grow as a person and as a clinician, the more I realize that sometimes simple changes can have a big effect. I like to help clients identify what these might be, so that they can implement them and see results.
