My name is Marianna Skidmore and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia. I have been practicing for a decade now and I am a firm believer that therapy can be a healthy tool for anyone. I am a very Person Centered Therapist, meaning I believe that you are the expert of your life. My goal is to help you explore yourself and guide you towards the person YOU want to be. I also use a variety of other modalities such as CBT, SFT, MI, and EMDR. My approach is tailored differently for each person because you are a unique individual! I look forward to meeting you!
The first appointment is a bit different from a typical therapy session—think of it as our "getting to know you" session. We'll discuss your history, explore what brings you to therapy, and start outlining a treatment plan.
I bring humor, optimism, and a down-to-earth approach to our sessions. When you meet me, you’re meeting the real me—no pretenses. I believe in being authentic because I want you to feel at ease and be your true self, too!

I’m all about Person-Centered therapy. I believe that you are the expert in your life. I think it is important that you have the ability to determine what you want from therapy. I like to meet people where they are and build from there.
I’ve received formal training in EMDR, a powerful trauma treatment that has made a significant difference for many people dealing with various types of trauma. While I am always Person-Centered in my approach and may suggest EMDR if it seems like a good fit for your needs, the choice to pursue it is entirely up to you. Your preferences and comfort are my top priority!
CBT is a fantastic tool for managing thoughts that can get in the way of reaching your goals. I find it really useful for helping you overcome obstacles, but it’s just one part of my approach. I like to blend it with other methods to create a plan that’s as unique as you are. We’ll work together to find what works best for you!
