Hi I'm Dr. Yvonne Foster. I recieved my Doctorate from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and I am a Licenced Professional Counselor. I have been in practice for over 25 years and love working with a diverse population of individuals. At this point in my career, I have worked with individuals, couples and families to address issues stemming from childhood and adult crisis, as well as, work and family life stressors. I work to quickly assess the issues affecting my client's lives and then assist them in addressing and making the cognitive or behavioral changes necessary to improve their daily functioning and mental health.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will quickly delve into what brought you to therapy and what the initial stressor is that you are dealing with. I will assist you along the way with questions to fully understand what your needs are, to understand how you have come to this place in your life and what changes we will address together in therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My years of experience has resulted in strong diagnostic assessment skills and the ability to quickly assist my clients in understanding and having an awareness of their underlying issues and how those issues are affecting their lives. Once someone understands the why, the motivation to change follows. An additional strength, is my knowledge of health issues that result in or can be the actual cause of mental health issues and providing appropriate medical referral.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have over 25 years of experience providing mental health therapy to individual's, couples, and families. I believe that you should not be in therapy for years, but should be quickly making the changes in your life to get you out of therapy. The goal of therapy is to help you to determine what those changes are and then to help you take the necessary steps to make those changes. My approach to therapy combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and mindfulness. I am direct, honest, and genuine in the care I provide and consider my assessment and diagnostic skills to be my greatest strength. Client satisfaction and demonstrable results are a priority. I will be the first person to tell you if we are not a good fit. I am interactive and do more than "just sit there and listen." I have a strong background in working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, including couples, as well as, female medical conditions that impact mental health functioning. In addition, I have 10 years of experience in the area of disability services at the college level.
