Welcome! Are you experiencing symptoms like a knot in your stomach, heart racing, negative thoughts that you cannot stop? Do you worry about how to get through your day? Is your business failing because you cannot stop your perfectionism and need to be in control of everything? Guilt, sadness, and fear can all lead to fatigue, inability to make decisions, and sometimes irritability toward family members. I am a Certified, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Nationally Certified and Licensed School Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children, adults, families, CEOs, Celebrities, the Courts and other professionals in the psychology field. I use primarily Holistic therapy, addressing mental, emotional and physical parts of you to help you gain more happiness and get rid of emotionally painful memories. I use strategies personalized to assist you to reach your goals with the least stress possible. Client feedback is usually," I have never met a therapist like you." "You have helped me more than you could ever know." " I am so amazed how different it feels to be me now." It is always exciting to watch clients grow and embrace new tools and gain a more productive way of perceiving the world and themselves. Hope to hear from you soon.
During our first session I will answer any questions you may have. I will ask questions about your background, previous therapy, medications, and a thorough history to gather information that led to where you are now. You may be curious about some of the strategies I use or may want to know my experience working with a particular disorder. You may also request to work in a certain way that is comfortable for you and allows you full expression of your thoughts and feelings. Most of all it is important that we can establish for you a place of comfort where you feel like you are talking with an old friend who understands, gives you the attention and feedback you need, and who has some good ideas about how to alleviate the things you bring to a session.
My strengths would include over 20 years of experience working with a broad spectrum of people. symptoms, and situations. I must include my educational background, two masters degrees in education and psychology, a Ph.D. in mental health, and great mentors. I use a lot of flexibility, intuitive experience, outside the box thinking and a sense of humor. Clients tell me I'm a great listener. I was trained by Richard Bandler in NLP, and have worked with all ages and settings, including educational, hospital, juvenile incarceration, courts, administration, businesses, homes, and a private office. My clientele have included celebrities, CEO's, students, housewives, teens, teachers, lawyers, business owners, other therapists, and many others too numerous to list. I am a creative therapist and will combine modalities and strategies to assist a client where they are and teach new skills to practice in real life settings. Everyone has a unique history, responds differently to therapeutic approaches, and has an expectation of what they need. I am educated and trained to be flexible. Some people respond well to a logical approach, others may like feeling re-parented, and everyone wants to be accepted and understood. Being logical and helping build the bridge from where you came to where you are now helps with insight. Learning to think and perceive differently can give anyone a new outlook. For example, if you put your story on a TV screen to view with me, as you tell it, you will find the distancing helps keep you more in control and more objective. Time frames for your therapy are very flexible and I can accommodate anyone's need to have appts. that are not time-limited. I am tenacious when searching for answers to problems a client brings to a session. Together we will find a way to make your days and nights more enjoyable and fulfilling.
I embrace any client that is motivated to do the work in securing a healthy future for themselves. Women and men that have lost their confidence, experiencing conflict with important people in their lives, unable to function due to worry, procrastination, or insomnia, feeling out of control with emotions that are overwhelming, thoughts that race in your mind robbing you of sleep and rest, irritability or anger that comes out of nowhere and at the most inappropriate times, all of these are symptoms are waiting for the tools to overcome them. People that need immersion therapy can be served by offering you an unlimited time frame to reclaim your fully functioning self after a setback that was traumatic to you.
CBT is a structured behavioral system using your cognitive ability to understand , question and perceive thoughts in a new way that assists in reaching goals, feel better about a situation and move forward in a more positive way. It allows you to bring balance into your logic and emotional perceptions to view a situation from a more neutral or positive position. Your self awareness expands and so does your ability to use more of your natural healing ability.
Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing is an excellent tool for trauma, restructuring a memory that is disturbing and allowing the thought to be in the past without the emotional attachment , resulting in relief, calmness and peace.
My eclectic style, and sometimes referred to as Holistic approach, includes lifestyles that can affect mood, emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Assessing sleep, habits, diet, exercise, medications, your thinking, your emotional reactions, your relationships and your current symptoms can identify factors that can be changed to improve emotional, physical and mental health.
Loss often results in deep pain and sorrow that is unique to each person. Often there are strong feelings of guilt, anger, sadness, and depression that can last and interfere with daily life. Learning strategies to alleviate these strong feelings along with time to process the loss and commemorate it in a positive way can bring back a memory with a neutral or happy feeling associated with it.
DBT is similar to CBT except it is also important to include mindfulness with relaxation techniques to take a negative mind set into a more positive and healthy experience. Releasing judgement and allowing yourself to be in the moment are key factors to bring more emotional regulation which is the cornerstone of good mental health.
