Are you struggling to find a competent therapist who does more than nod in agreement? Are you looking for someone to help battle depression and anxiety and maybe some unresolved trauma? Look no further! Hi, my name is Joey Caggiano. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Florida. I have been working in mental health for over six years; before that, I spent several years working in crime scene investigations and other positions in law enforcement. My mission and passion is to help others reach their full potential. I am not a traditional therapist. I am in a wheelchair. I often use humor in my therapy sessions as I believe creating a safe space and comfortable environment for all is most important. I think that you are the expert in your treatment. You get to decide what we focus on. I am here to be your spirit or travel guide through your life journey. We live in stressful times, and sometimes, our minds can be our worst enemy. Whether you're struggling with self-doubt, negative thoughts, thoughts of self-harm, or maybe even suicidal thoughts, I can help! Let's work together to build coping skills to face life's challenges. As a therapist with a disability, I have unique insight into those who think differently and make therapy enjoyable.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First, let me commend you for taking the first step on your healing journey by starting the search for a therapist. That is a big step! During my first session, validation and understanding were key. We are both on this journey together, and during our first session, we will start with introductions and expectations. Let's ensure we are the right healing team first and foremost. Then, we will create an individualized treatment plan to ensure you reach your expectations and beyond!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting task. I have honed my skills throughout my 6+ years working in community mental health and private practice. But what sets me apart is my unending sense of compassion. I do not see a diagnosis. I see a person. let's focus on your strengths and work together on your healing journey to resolve those challenges that you may be facing; schedule an appointment today and find the compassionate care that you are looking for!

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I often use a person-centered approach because I believe that you are the expert in your treatment. My role is to serve as a mirror to help you navigate life's struggles. I firmly believe that we all have an inner therapist, and my job is to help you discover yours. I believe in providing individualized and unique approaches because everyone is different, and everyone deserves their own treatment plan. Are you tired of working with therapists who simply nod in agreement without providing feedback or offering hope? I understand how frustrating that can be. Together, we can tackle whatever you are struggling with, whether it's depression, anxiety, trauma, or difficulty coping with change.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

As someone with a disability, I am in a unique position to understand the challenges faced by individuals who belong to various communities. I have over a decade of experience working with diverse populations and have developed a specialization in this field. I believe every individual deserves a safe and inclusive environment where they can express themselves freely without fearing judgment or discrimination. My work has involved working with individuals of different races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and religious or spiritual beliefs. I have also worked with neurodiverse populations, which include individuals with ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorders, or those who think differently. My experience with these individuals has taught me the importance of understanding and accommodating their unique needs. I am a Certified Autism Clinical Specialist, meaning I have undergone extensive training in working with individuals on the autism spectrum. I understand that each individual on the spectrum is unique and requires a personalized approach to therapy. As a result, I provide tailored therapy sessions designed to meet each individual's unique needs. My experiences as an individual with a disability have taught me the importance of culturally sensitive approaches. I do my best to ensure everyone is comfortable opening up without fearing judgment. I believe creating a nurturing environment where individuals can feel safe enough to grow and heal is important. Together, we will work towards building a relationship based on trust, empathy, and understanding.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been utilizing dialectical behavioral therapy techniques in my practice for several years. This approach is beneficial as it helps build coping skills while also acknowledging the mind-body connection. Whether you are dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or struggling to cope with change, I believe that developing appropriate coping mechanisms is crucial to one's recovery."

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems is a unique approach to therapy that believes we all have different parts within us, and each of those parts serves the ultimate purpose of protecting us. By using this method, we will work together to connect with your various internal parts and learn how to heal any inner trauma that you may be experiencing. I find the Internal Family Systems approach appealing because it focuses on parts rather than a specific diagnosis, and aims to treat the person, not just their symptoms. Are you ready to learn how to heal your reactive protectors that may manifest as anger, people-pleasing, or other behaviors? If so, let's get started today!
