About me

Hi! My name is Emily Novokmet and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, living in Los Angeles. I have been practicing therapy for four years and have worked in the mental health field for nine. My goal is to cultivate authentic connection with my clients so that they feel seen and heard for who and where they are. Warmth and empathy are at the core of everything I do in the therapeutic space.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is like a coffee date with someone you already know for sure will like you. We will do brief introductions and discuss what brings you to seek support, then we will review your intake information and questionnaires. We will talk a little about your hopes for therapy and address any questions you may have about this new adventure before we decide how best to move forward with session scheduling and frequency.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I truly love working with people and building connections and I feel that comes through to those I work with. It is my firm belief that all people are good and loveable and I bring that warmth and positive regard to the table first and foremost. I am good at creating comfort and safety in relationship with clients and I feel that this authentic connection often drives deeper sharing and openness that leads to client progress.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with clients of all ages who are looking to evaluate the patterns they may find themselves in- in work, in relationships, in their own thinking- and who may be ready or open to trying something new. It is my belief that when we feel safe, we can be our best and most open selves. My goal is to make our sessions your safe space so that, together, we can help you feel better and healthier as you move toward whatever your goals might be.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

This approach involves building a trusting relationship where you can speak openly. Together, we identify and clarify your specific goals and the direction of change that you wish to pursue. We explore your own motivations for change. Collaboratively, we develop a concrete plan of action that aligns with your values and ensures you're comfortable and confident moving forward.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have practiced and utilized many of the evidence based techniques of CBT with my clients, from children to adults. I find the strategies to be practical and very helpful.

Play Therapy

Through my work with children ages 5-18 and through trainings on the subject, I have gained experience with play therapy techniques. I am able to practice digital and in-person play therapy and find it to be a wonderful way to help children express themselves.

Trauma Informed Care

I have worked with clients of all ages who have experienced extensive trauma. I feel it is incredibly important to approach every client through a trauma informed lens, in order to provide the best treatment possible.

Strength-Based

This approach focuses on your individual strengths rather than just your problems or deficits. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, where we work together to identify your unique strengths, develop positive perspectives and create strategies for resilience.
