Hello, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC, in the state of Indiana. I graduated from the University of Saint Francis with a master's degree in School Counseling and Mental Health. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults in the public schools and outpatient setting in our local hospital. My passion is helping families and individuals to improve communication, have better relationships and to achieve positive empowered mental health.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will begin to build rapport. I will review your social history and gain insight into your unique wants and needs. I am required to review certain safety items and discuss and the terms of confidentiality. I will also explain "how" therapy works and what you can expect. All of this will give me the necessary information to create for you an individualized treatment plan and strategies to reach your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength is communication and empathy. I have a unique blend of knowledge that has assisted me in connecting with people and helping them to achieve the best versions of themselves. I have been helping people for over 40 years, first as a registered nurse, then an elementary teacher and now as a mental health counselor.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT connects your situations, feelings, behaviors and thoughts. The goal in using CBT is to assist you, the client in finding a way to control your emotions with the way you think and then ultimately to change behaviors and situations.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I am a certified TF-CBT therapist. I have experience with children who have experienced trauma and have been removed from the home by the Department of Child Protective Services. I have worked with children in foster care and who have been adopted. Part of TF-CBT is allowing the child to tell his/her story. I utilize a variety of techniques which may include, play therapy, games, art, music and horses.

Eclectic

Eclectic describes how I approach therapy. My training is rooted in Adlerian, but also utilizes other theoretical theories. Some approaches use CBT, DBT, experiential, solution-focused and use of metaphors. Many times mental health work requires a unique way of expressing or telling a story. I have utilized play, art, music or equine (horse) therapy. My experience also includes working with families and some couples. Many times anxiety, depression and other mental health problems, are rooted in relationships. Successful therapy empowers the client to make choices that improve their mental health.

Grief Therapy

Experiencing loss is difficult. Moving forward in life means finding a "new normal" and maybe not feeling quite the same as before the loss. Grief therapy is never the same, each person has a unique way of moving through the process. Pieces of grief therapy may include, companioning, remembering how life was before the loss, riding the waves, creating rituals, restoring routine, finding unique ways of expressing loss, such as art, music or equine (horse) therapy.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solutions Focused Brief Treatment assists clients in finding the answers within themselves and equipping them to make lifelong change.
