About me

Are you feeling lost or alone? Do you feel unseen or unheard? Do you feel you are holding everything together? As a marriage and family therapist specializing in adult family relationships, I am passionate about helping individuals and families navigate through their most challenging times with authenticity to their own values while also achieving deeper connections with their spouses, or their families. With over 10 years of experience in the field, I work with you to create a safe and supportive environment for you to share their deepest concerns and take the steps you always knew you could! Family dynamics can be complex, especially as individuals navigate through adulthood. You may find old patterns hard to shake. Through careful reflection, we explore patterns of brokenness in order to promote true healing and lasting change. You can develop a deeper understanding of familial patterns and behaviors, and ultimately foster stronger, healthier relationships. Many of those I work with are self-proclaimed perfectionists, Type A Personalities, and high Achievers experiencing burnout. Often, this burnout stems from feeling like "no one else will step up" so you do. We work together to learn to lay the heavy load down and show up fully as yourself in order to create a more balanced work/life balance. We identify beliefs supporting driven behavior and pressures living. While also taking steps to put sustainable boundaries in place and strengthen your relationships so you can have real periods of relaxation without the guilt! I am committed to empowering you to lead a fulfilling, meaningful life. I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, and understood, and together we find the tools and resources to make that a reality.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Sometimes, it can be tough to reach out and set the first appointment, so we take time to explore your understanding of the circumstances in your life and establish goals that will bring about your desired growth or relief. I take an empathic approach and tend to ask questions for clarity and greater understanding

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

With a background in therapy and Intercultural Ministries, cultural competency is an important part of the therapy process and your faith and culture background can be an integral part of treatment.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Often individuals come to help navigate their relationships with spouses or family members. They often feel trapped or burned out from "giving and giving". They are often high achievers who are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. They may have a history of anxiety or depression. They may be have difficulty putting desired boundaries in place and are often fatigued by the sheer workload that is on them. However, these are also individuals who are determined and believe change is possible. They know it starts with them. They hold a strong value system that keeps them going. They want to feel more free and more at peace.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Your values are important and ACT is a type of therapy that allows you to live a life according to what is most important to you. This form of therapy also helps you become "unstuck" from what you think and what you do. It allows you to become more aware of your thoughts and behaviors and see yourself from a "bird's eye" view. You learn to accept the difficult thoughts and feelings but remain grounded by what is most important to you to create the flexibility to take the type of actions you'd like to and remain committed to them!

Attachment-based

The relationships we build can be heavily influenced by the relationship we had with caregivers in the earliest stage of our development. Attachment helps us understand why we might have certain patterns in our relationships. For example, if you find yourself in a "push/pull" or "pursue/withdraw" pattern sometimes attachment theory can offer an explanation as to why and provide strategies to change that dance! Learning principles of

Christian Counseling

Your faith is important to you. There are ways that scripture, prayer, meditation, and living a life according to Christ helps with mental health and can be implemented if desired. I follow your lead with integrating faith in a way that you practice. I do see individuals regardless of their faith background.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Culture hugely affects/defines who we are, how we see & navigate the world. We also know that other people have perceptions of our culture and we of theirs that influences us as well. As an African- American cisgender able-bodied woman, I am still learning and growing and am super curious about myself and the world around me! This curiosity is paired with respect, sensitivity, and care as we explore a world filled with biases and stereotypes that if unchecked can color the way we we see ourselves and others and can cause harm. I offer culturally humble and competent therapy to create safety where you feel less pressure to explain yourself, where you'll be believed, and where your cultural perspective is validated and understood. Racism, masking, discrimination, microaggressions are often common BIPOC and LGBTQ+ experiences that are given little space. We take time to explore these concepts as well as the intersectionality of your experiences and its relationship to discrimination and privilege.
