PMHNP, 4 years of experience
I am a wife, aunt, grandmother to 2 boys, and mother to 3 dogs and 3 cats. I have been a nurse for over 30 years, and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for 4 years. I received my bachelor's in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1994, my master's in nursing education from the University of Mississippi in 2014, and my post-master's certificate in psychiatric mental health from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2020.
In our first session, I will review questionnaires, and obtain a thorough physical, social, and psychological history. I will order appropriate lab studies, and propose a treatment plan, which will be altered as necessary based on responses and lab values.
I am currently enrolled in an integrative psychiatry certificate program in which I am learning how to incorporate holistic modalities into conventional medical treatments for common mental health diagnoses. I hope to use what I learn to help people acheive total health. I am an empathic listener, and I believe clients must be in control of their treatment plan. I am here to guide, educate, and prescribe, not dictate.
I want to serve those who recognize the complexity of mental health, those who understand that disruptions in wellbeing are likely due to a combination of lifestyle, spiritual, and biopsychosocial factors. My dream client would be open to conventional medical treatments as well as alternative modalities such as diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes.
Clients are able to discuss their problems in a safe, non-judgemental environment
The mind-body approach views the brain, mind, body, and behavior as interconnected. I am fascinated by and encourage the use of complementary therapies, such as meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and movement, to promote healing and well-being in individuals with mental health conditions.
Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health treatment that combines conventional treatments like medication and psychotherapy with complementary therapies like nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, and supplements
