My Passion: April has a passion for helping struggling children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Having experienced the effects of alcoholism, depression and mental health illness in her family, she has a deep compassion for people struggling with mental illness and she believes counseling is a calling, not a profession. Education: April completed her bachelor's degree in psychology and biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. She has a master’s degree in psychology & counseling from Texas A/M University-Commerce. April is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and she has over 20 years of experience working with individuals, families and groups. Our Relationship: As your counselor I will create an environment that is safe for you to be honest and open. I promise to develop a relationship of trust, transparency and authenticity. I will have a sense of humor while challenging you. I will guide you with love and compassion into self discovery and behavioral insight. We will work together to identify unhealthy core beliefs that are at the heart of your issues while encouraging you to strive for deeper spiritual insight. I will use traditional counseling techniques, education, along with deeper spiritual connection in order to facilitate the healing process. Most importantly I will use my unrelenting knowledge and experience from my own personal journey to heal myself to guide you with support. I want to teach you to fish, not fish for you.
During our first session together, we will do a brief overview of the last 5 years and your goals for counseling.
My strengths are in Adolescent, Family, Group and Spiritual Counseling with a variety of clients from diverse backgrounds. My techniques are somewhat different because I bring together traditional techniques of counseling along with Buddhist philosophy and your higher power to help facilitate the healing of mind, body and soul. What type of Client will you be? You will feel safe to express any emotion or thought without my prejudice. You will be free from pressure to follow one course of action rather than another. We will simply discuss your options and I will help navigate what you believe is best for you.
