It sounds cliched to some, but do you miss being happy? Do you feel stuck in mental mud unable to move forward in your life? Are you overwhelmed with treatment options and do not know how to start the journey towards optimal mental health? I can help you navigate this confusing journey of mental health care. I offer a non-judgmental, safe space for persons of all backgrounds to discuss their deepest, darkest issues that inhibit them from reaching the light of happiness and peace. You deserve to be happy and asking for help is the first step in this process. Seeking help for mental health care can be scary and overwhelming, but I am here to lend an empathetic, compassionate ear and offer evidence-based treatment options that can set you on the path to well-being.
During the first session, we will get to know one another and I will ask you for a lot of background information on your condition, medication trials, medical and psychiatric history and family history. We will come up with working diagnoses for your condition and a treatment plan. I may recommend other treatment options in addition to medication management.
I have been a nurse practitioner for 8 years, first working as a family nurse practitioner in various settings for 6 years and working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner for over 2 years. My journey to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner and working in mental health has been long and winding but I feel all my diverse experience makes me a better practitioner. I believe physical health impacts mental health and vice versa, so I am comfortable talking with you about how your chronic physical conditions may be impacting your mental health and how your mental health impacts your physical health. I also come from a diverse background, being a first-generation Pakistani-American Muslim so I have a lot of empathy and understanding of cultural and religious issues that may impact your mental health.
I love working with clients of all ages who may see the need for change in their lives but may need guidance on how to work towards changing their mental health for the better. I have seen clients of all ages transform their lives with appropriate medication management that works for them. I do not believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to mental health care. I believe in listening to clients tell me what is and is not working for them and adjusting the management accordingly in collaboration with them and in line with their goals.
I use supportive therapy to guide you through the treatment process and explore any hesitations about medications.
I use motivational interviewing to guide clients to explore their own reasons for change and empower them to move forward with positive change.
