Hi, my name is Amanda Harmon, I am a Licenses Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). I approach therapy through a trauma informed lens, simply put "What has happened and how is it affecting you now?" As a therapist, I am passionate about supporting my clients in finding balance in all aspects of their lives. I am knowledgeable, compassionate, and honoring of my clients’ unique experiences. I work with adults to help them identify and address obstacles that prevent them from engaging in life more fully. The focus of my work with clients is to address past and present problems, to eliminate what is no longer useful, and to focus on all that is promising and possible. I bring to my practice experience and education. I completed my graduate work in Professional Clinical Counseling at Grand Canyon University and my EMDR training by EMDRIA approved training providers. I am currently receiving consultation for EMDR certification.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session will include an introduction, discussion of formalities (confidentiality, mandated reporting requirements, cancelation policy review) and a then a collaboration of sharing and asking questions to build rapport and come up with a plan of action for future sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

If you are at a point of feeling overwhelmed and stuck, experiencing anxiety, depression, racing thoughts, or maybe you want to learn new skills to help navigate relationship or build self-esteem. You are brave in taking the first step by reaching out for help. Please allow me the honor of partnering with you on this journey. I will help build your toolbox of coping strategies to quiet the mind and the body, as well as introduce new ways of thinking about yourself, others and the world around you.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Past events, traumatic or disturbing are stored in the mind and body causing uncomfortable feelings, thoughts and sensations. These unprocessed memories are often triggered by current day events. EMDR therapy is a powerful approach leaving lasting healing results.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Experiencing a traumatic event can often leave you feeling "stuck" with unhelpful beliefs about yourself, others, and the world around. CPT is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that can help you gain a new understanding of the event and reduce its negative effect on current life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Everyday stressors can seem overwhelming and hopeless. CBT can help increase your ability to respond to a situation more effectively by bringing awareness to your thoughts and emotions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Real life is complex and often times we lack the skills necessary to navigate relationships and related emotions. DBT teaches skills and strategies to help resolve conflict, manage emotions, and reduce stress.
