Hi! My name is Kathleen. I am a bi-cultural Vietnamese American Licensed Clinical Social Worker with comprehensive experience as a mental health provider. In my private practice, I help individuals experiencing depression or anxiety, whether newly onset or chronically, develop effective coping skills to utilize in their daily lives and improve their self-esteem. Currently, I am accepting adult clients (age 18 - 64) for individual sessions via the convenient telehealth platform on Grow Therapy. My practice is based out of California. However, please note that at this time, I am not able to work with clients in Los Angeles County due to other professional responsibilities. If we happen connect and you do live within LA County, I'm happy to make referrals to other qualified providers.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Whether it is your first time in therapy or you are returning, we will examine where you are in your life now, and the specific challenges you are facing. This will help guide our next steps of creating a tailored plan and goals for follow-up sessions. Overall, the best way I can describe my therapeutic orientation is a strengths-based approach. You have more strengths than you realize! Together, we will take time to identify your individual strengths and incorporate them towards your goals in therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Working in a variety of settings (non-profit, public and private practice clinics) has given me vast experience in helping people from a range of backgrounds and situations. Therein, my strengths are really striving to deeply understand and meet clients where they are at, and then becoming a point of support and resource for them throughout our time together.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have especially enjoyed working with young adults seeking to address present stressors or important changes in their lives which may be affecting their relationships, academic and/or career performance, and meeting personal goals. Additionally, I aim to help my clients gain more insight into how their unique social and cultural identities influence their everyday lived experiences and are perhaps linked to their presenting concerns.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, consist of methods and tools that are used to help individuals better understand their emotions, behaviors, thoughts, and how all three are explicably related to one another. Ultimately, CBT provides means and a path to become more insightful and flexible in our thinking and behaviors in particular situations. My formal training in CBT includes completion of the course, Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma for Adult Consumers, from the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. I continue to use CBT in my practice because of clients' positive responses, including increased engagement in the therapy process and sense of empowerment in their lives.
