Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we will begin with brief introductions to help establish a comfortable rapport. This is an opportunity for you to share a little about yourself and what brings you to therapy.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a diverse range of experience working in various settings, including crisis residential programs, community mental health focusing on dual diagnoses, and hospital outpatient services. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a wide array of populations, providing support to patients grappling with severe mental illness and substance abuse issues.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am passionate about working with young adults who are navigating mental health challenges. This stage of life can be particularly complex, as individuals face significant transitions and pressures that often lead to feelings of uncertainty and overwhelm.

Dr. Dagmawit Negash was awesome today. I had a lot of personal issues that centered around death, either people related to me or friend’s love ones. May 2025 was very difficult so having an opportunity to talk to her and just express what I was going through was very helpful. I have to work on forgiving myself and to not put undue stress on me.

Dagmawit listens and always provides the empathy and right questions needed to make sure you are always thinking, she helps you come up with solutions and approaches that genuinely help and aren't just temporary. She helps you put in the work that will have long term impact and checks in and remembers things that might seem minor. She is insightful, empathetic, always willing to listen, and a fantastic therapist.

It was my first therapy session with Dagmawit and she already taught me so much! I’ve tried therapy before and haven’t found a therapist I connected with or like. I can’t wait to continue my care with her.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. In CBT, we examine how cognitive distortions—incorrect or exaggerated thoughts—contribute to anxiety. I work collaboratively with clients to identify these negative thought patterns using various techniques, such as thought logs and cognitive restructuring.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that integrates cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. Many clients face challenges related to intense and unpredictable emotions, and DBT offers practical skills to help them identify, understand, and manage these feelings more effectively.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a powerful, evidence-based counseling technique designed to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals to openly discuss their thoughts and feelings about substance use. Many individuals with a history of substance use grapple with mixed emotions regarding their habits. I provide a non-judgmental space where clients can express themselves freely, allowing them to navigate this ambivalence with greater clarity.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy approach specifically designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Through EMDR, clients learn to effectively manage their emotional responses, leading to improved self-regulation, greater resilience, and enhanced confidence in navigating life's challenges. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I am committed to providing a supportive, empathetic, and collaborative environment. Together, we will explore your unique experiences and work toward lasting healing and transformation.
