Hi.!! My name is Chioma Snowbird Iroegbu. I go by "CHI." I am a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) licensed in the states of Maryland, Delaware, & Virginia. I am compassionate & dedicated to making a positive impact on the mental well-being of my patients. I am dedicated to fostering healing & hope in the lives of those with mental health issues. I believe in the power of faith to contribute to healing and recovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into a full assessment of the specific mental health challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions & assist in creating a diagnosis with a medication management plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am known for my empathetic and non-judgmental demeanor, creating a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and challenges. I am experienced in working with diverse populations and I am passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. I integrate mindfulness and spiritual counseling into my treatment plans with the utmost respect for each individual's religious beliefs.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

Christian counseling integrates principles of psychology and mental health treatment with Christian faith and spirituality. Practitioners of Christian counseling believe that faith can play a significant role in healing and promoting mental well-being. I often incorporate scripture, prayer, and Christian teachings into therapy sessions. In my mental health practice, I may incorporate elements of Christian counseling for clients who express a desire to integrate their faith into therapy. I always respect clients' beliefs and preferences and I provide inclusive and culturally sensitive care.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a widely used and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In my mental health practice, I may utilize CBT techniques with clients who are dealing with various mental health concerns such as anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, substance abuse, and more. I start by conducting a thorough assessment of the client's presenting issues, symptoms, and history. I work collaboratively with the client to establish treatment goals. I assist clients in challenging and restructuring their negative or distorted thinking patterns. I encourage clients to test out new behaviors and beliefs through behavioral experiments.

Collaborative Management and Assessment of Suicidality (CAMS)

Collaborative management and assessment of suicidality involves a team approach to evaluating and addressing suicidal thoughts or behaviors. It typically involves mental health professionals working closely with the individual at risk, as well as involving family members or other support systems when appropriate. The first step I use is doing a thorough assessment of the individual's current mental health status, including the presence and severity of suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Ensuring the immediate safety of the individual is paramount. I work with the individual to establish treatment goals and develop a plan for managing suicidality. I perform regular monitoring & follow-up. I involve clients as active participants in the therapeutic process and respect their expertise on their own cultural experiences and identities.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Culturally sensitive therapy, also known as culturally competent therapy, acknowledges and respects the diverse backgrounds, beliefs, values, and experiences of clients. In my mental health practice, I incorporate cultural sensitive therapy by asking questions about cultural identity, family dynamics, cultural norms, religious or spiritual beliefs, and experiences of discrimination or oppression. I tailor therapeutic interventions to align with the client's cultural values, beliefs, and preferences. I create a safe and inclusive therapeutic environment where clients feel respected, valued, and understood regardless of their cultural background, identity, or experiences.
