Hi, I'm Heather and am dually licensed as a mental health and chemical addiction counselor. My role is to support you, listen to you, and work with you to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions will be a collaborative journey, where we explore your thoughts and feelings together, at a pace that feels right to you. While you are the driving force of the our work together, I will encourage and challenge you to keep making progress.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start getting to know each other and creating a comfortable environment where we both can talk openly. We will start to identify and understand the challenges that motivated you to come to counseling. This will help us create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In my career, I have worked with children, teens, and adults. I have worked with the courts. I have worked with child welfare systems. I have worked with drug and alcohol dependency programs. I have worked at schools and courthouses, and homeless shelters, and rehab facilities. In addition, I have a broad educational background and a thirst for knowledge that keeps me learning. And all of this has helped me to develop compassion and empathy and the means of finding a way to connect with my clients on a meaningful level.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am certified in dialectical behavior therapy and have found it beneficial for a variety of life situations. DBT emphasizes a unique collaborative approach where the therapist and client work together as partners. The therapist acts as a coach, guiding the client through the process of learning and applying DBT skills. An advantage of DBT, is clients can walk away after one session, with a new life/coping skill, it doesn't always take weeks or months to make progress.

Polyvagal Therapy

I use polyvagal therapy to assist clients with anxiety, trauma response, and emotional distress. In a nutshell, polyvagal addresses the emotional and physical responses we learn over the course of life that kept us safe but now keep us from forming healthy connections to other people, including ourselves.

Integrative

I am also certified in integrative mental health. This style of counseling highlights all parts of self: biological, psychological, social, and spiritual. Psychoeducation is a big part of this therapy, for example, learning about sleep hygeine or nutrition habits and how these can be improved on to increase life satisfaction.
