Hello! My name is Laura Rossmurphy and I’m so glad you are reaching out for support! I have focused most of my career working with adults with eating disorders and am currently working towards my CEDS (Certified Eating Disorder Specialist) certification and certification as an ADHD specialist. I can also help with anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues, life transitions, grief/loss, and more. I have a warm, relational and eclectic approach to therapy and am skilled in a multitude of evidence based treatment approaches. For example, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps individuals change their thinking and manage challenging emotions and maladaptive behaviors. I also frequently utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence based intervention which is shown to increase awareness of thoughts, urges and feelings, increase one’s ability to cope with intense emotions, and helps decrease impulsivity. Incorporating DBT techniques in one’s life often translates into increased self- esteem, improved communication, healthier relationships, and a more meaningful existence. In addition to evidence based approaches, I also use expressive arts in my practice and am proud to be a former art educator (EC-12th grades). I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, I hold a BA in Psychology from Southern Methodist University and an MA in Counseling Psychology from Boston College.
I start by asking what is going on that motivated you to seek therapy. I then take a comprehensive biopsychosocial intake assessment (which means A LOT of questions!). I will then ask what your goals for therapy are and discuss how we can meet these goals, as well as give you my feedback on what you can work on.
I have an eclectic approach and utilize a warm, humorous and relational approach to therapy. I am trained and skilled in using several evidence based treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT and solution focused approaches.
My experience and strength lies in helping individuals who are struggling with body image issues, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and/or disordered eating and chronic pain/illness. I validate your experience and am here to walk this journey with you, however, I will not coddle you and always tell you what you want to hear. I often work as part of a treatment team and am part of a larger network of providers that include dietitians, physicians and psychiatrists. I am here to advocate for you and to collaborate with your team to help you get the best outcome from your hard work.
