I approach my job with respect, compassion, and realism. I understand life isn’t always butterflies and rainbows, and effective therapy isn’t about ignoring the bad and focusing on the good. Effective therapy is acknowledging, analyzing, and walking through the ugly so we can better understand ourselves, how we want to live our lives, and how to do so. I strive to create a welcoming environment in which people feel comfortable with being themselves. Therapy can be nerve-wracking and uncomfortable at times, so I welcome all use of colorful language and unconventional communication. However you feel best expressing yourself, I’m here for it.
Usually the first session is just me asking some questions and us having a conversation about how you'd like to ideally benefit from our time together.
-Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) -Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) -Existential Therapy -Narrative Therapy -Person-Centered Therapy / Insight-Oriented Therapy -Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
The majority of my experience is with trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and attachment-based issues. I'm trained in EMDR and I've fallen in love with this approach, as I can see it working for my clients first-hand, and helping them maneuver through their past experiences in a more helpful, adaptive way. I enjoy working with people who have either had a bad therapy experience, have never tried it before, or are apprehensive about it so I can help them redefine their expectations and perspective of therapy, but more importantly give themselves a chance at peace.
