Have you ever wondered what is at the root of your problems? You may find yourself asking questions like, “Why do I keep acting this way?” or “Why am I always experiencing trouble in my relationships?” You may find yourself hoping for relief from insecurity, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, fear, or depression. These are all symptoms of a root cause. The good news is that in therapy, we will be able to identify the root cause together, and strategize ways to help you find relief and healing! My name is Michelle Cook, and I’m excited for you as you start (or continue) your journey towards mental wellness. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) specialized in treating childhood/chronic trauma, and have a passion for teaching people you how to recognize, feel, and regulate emotions—so that you can experience a sound mind. My Master’s Degree is in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University, where I learned to integrate Christian values into therapy for those who desire to do so. I have experience providing therapy in a variety of settings, including with children, individuals suffering from chronic trauma, individuals in low socioeconomic status, faith-based/ministry settings, and residential mental health treatment.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and give you space to share what brings you to therapy. This is where we determine if we’re a good fit to work together. We’ll also go over some intake information, your goals, and what you can expect from the therapy process moving forward.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am EMDR-trained and passionate about helping women heal from trauma.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
As we collaborate in this stage of your mental health journey, I will help you create a tool-belt of coping skills that work for you. I will also help you process past traumas and/or stressors through the modality that fits you best, such as: EMDR, attachment-based therapy, person-centered therapy, CBT, or DBT. By the end of our time together, you will be empowered with the social and emotional tools you need to navigate life in authenticity and freedom.
EMDR
For clients with single-incident or chronic trauma, I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help you process and heal from distressing memories by gently guiding your brain to reprocess them in a safe and structured way.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be impacting how you feel and behave.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
In our sessions, I use DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to help you build skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness to better navigate life’s challenges.
Christian Counseling
If desired, I incorporate Christian counseling interventions such as prayer, Scripture, and faith-based perspectives to support your emotional and spiritual growth.
