My name is Sheilly Arora, and I am a practicing psychologist for almost 20 years. I love what I do and find it a privilege to be of help to others. I am fluent in several Evidence Based treatments including and not limited to treatments for depression, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia and PTSD. While originally from the East coast, I did both my internship and post-doctoral training in California. I have been here ever since and feel lucky to be able to call California my home.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After brief introductions, let's get to work. Share your present day struggles, along with the history of the symptoms and let's figure out a treatment plan together that can help.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

While I am a great listener, I also believe that for people to make a change, they have to be challenged and encouraged to look beyond what meets the eye.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

This is an Evidence Based Treatment used to help with insomnia, with an extremely high success rate. If the client is ready to do the work, to keep sleep diaries and work on their sleep hygiene, this is a wonderful, very short term treatment (only 4-6 weeks) to significantly improve one's struggles with insomnia.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have worked with CBT with most of my career. It is an great treatment for so many reasons. It can help with anxiety, depression, pain, sleep and even anger. It's shown tremendous success when done correctly and has been around for decades.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

This is an Evidence Based treatment for PTSD, usually done in 12 weeks. It's been used for several years now, with much success. It entails having to do worksheet and homework, much of which is geared towards challenging and evaluating our irrational thoughts and behaviors.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Also an Evidence Based therapy for PTSD, this treatment has a very high improvement rate. While a very emotionally challenging treatment, it yields amazing results. It involves approaching the trauma related memories and the feelings associated with it. In time, individuals learn that the trauma related memories alone can be tolerated, are not dangerous and do not need to be avoided.

Supportive

Sometimes we just need a place and a person to talk to, with an objective eye. Sometimes we need comfort, guidance and someone to challenge us, while still being supportive.
