Hello there, my name is Katarzyna Kundera Byrd, but you can call me Kash. I received my Master's in Social work from University of West Florida in 2016, and became licensed in 2018. Since receiving my LCSW, I have worked with a large range of clients, from specialized foster care, to being a medical social worker for the geriatric population. I am currently licensed in Texas, Florida, and Colorado, and work with the 18 years old+ population. My specialty is grief, but I have helped clients in other areas of mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. I tailor my approaches to clients and their needs, because therapy is not "one size-fits-all".

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will involve a lot of information gathering and explanations of what to expect in future sessions. I'd like to learn my client's overall history. Interactions in the initial session is one of my favorite things about being a therapist, I love to learn about my clients and their backgrounds. For some, retelling our stories is very difficult, so I will be there to validate and provide support. I emphasize on confidentiality and safety, as well as making sure you are comfortable with the questions being asked. I will never force any client to discuss things that they are not quite ready to share.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I strongly believe that having a solid therapeutic alliance is very important. I pride myself in my rapport building skills and empowering my clients. I am never forceful or insensitive, and I strive to cultivate a transparent and honest session space.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Most times when a difficult situation develops, others around us, sometimes including ourselves, try to find solutions immediately, instead of processing the emotions prompted by the difficult situation. In DBT, we learn to manage intense emotions, cope with challenging situations, and improve our interpersonal relationships. Solutions will be identified, but let's deal with the feelings first.

Grief Therapy

Unfortunately, loss is something all of us experience, whether it be the loss of a loved one or the loss of our self-worth. I emphasize on the importance of discovering who we are now without who/what we lost, and how do we find meaning in our lives. Grief is my specialty because I immediately have relatability with my clients regarding this topic, relatability is powerful when it comes to grief. My approaches don't only come from clinical trainings, but from life experience.
