Tameka is a dually licensed psychotherapist in the State of North Carolina. She has been working in mental health and substance abuse for the past 20 years. Her primary areas of interest include women’s issues, working professionals, and adolescents, with specialization in substance abuse, and trauma. Tameka’s approach to counseling is through making a connection. The therapeutic relationship is the first step in the change process. She works hard to ensure that all of her clients feel safe and supported. She wants you to be the best version of yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is the assessment where the individual will have the opportunity to share what they have been experiencing and what they would like to work on in therapy. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and we will set the tone for the therapeutic journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I pride myself on being open and nonjudgemental. I create a safe space where will make an authentic connection as we share this journey

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use this modality with other theories to assist in implementing change. It assists in identifying past perceptions that influence the present. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps people learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior and emotions. Cognitive behavioral therapy combines cognitive therapy with behavior therapy by identifying maladaptive patterns of thinking, emotional responses, or behaviors and replacing them with more desirable patterns.

Reality Therapy

To address the issues that are currently impacting my clients I incorporate Reality Therapy. Reality therapy is a client-centered form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on improving present relationships and circumstances, with less concern and discussion of past events. This approach is based on the idea that our most important need is to be loved, to feel that we belong, and that all other basic needs can be satisfied only by building strong connections with others.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use this theory to help empower my clients to take charge of their well being. a client-based form of therapy that empowers the client to take ownership of their mental well-being. It shifts the focus from the mental health professional to the client and allows them to have control of the therapeutic process. Person-centered therapy provides a safe space for clients to become more self-aware and find their own solutions.
