Let's face it Christian women experience multiple situations that they do not have the tools to overcome. I help Christian women to gain the skills necessary to manage and balance life as a result of anxiety, depression, relationships, work stress, early childhood experiences, grief and loss, elder abuse, church abuse, parenting and post-partum depression. My mission is to help Christian women to understand what is happening to them. That is, I seek to help clients to gain awareness on what is causing them to stay tied to their past experiences and how these experiences are impacting their growth in their families, for their friends, in their careers and life mission. I help women to establish inner and outer boundaries and how these are crucial for growth and well-being (physically, psychologically and spiritually). Additionally, I provide counseling services to English speaking immigrants and refugees (e.g. Caribbean/West Indies) to explore their acculturative experiences in America and to learn strategies to cope. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am an Associate Professor of Counselor Education at the university (both masters and doctoral levels), where I have been training clinical mental health counselors and school counselors for the past 13 years. I also have experiences working in a university counseling center, working in church counseling ministry, and school counseling (k-12). I use my lived experiences and spirituality to empower Christian women and to help them live and grow into their full God-given potential. I want to connect with you because you have the capacity to expand and outreach into your community and make a difference in this world.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will be used getting to know each other and dive into the challenges that brought you to counseling. This will be important for me to hear the different parts of your story and work with you to tailor a plan that will help us to move forward.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

With my background in Christian counseling and also as an educator of counseling at the graduate level, I am positioned to help you. Moreover, based on lived experiences and Christian commitment, I can help you detach and learn strategies to attach to the self, others and God. I am a fluent English speaker and a Fluent Jamaican Creole (Patois), and Caribbean Creole speaker.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I am a trained mental health counselor with experiences integrating theology with counseling. I have worked with children and adolescents, adults and older adults. I have worked with clients to integrate individual's faith and spirituality into the counseling process. In integrating theology with counseling I am able to to address clients' emotional/psychological and spiritual well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been utilizing CBT in my counseling work with individuals. CBT is used to help you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and to learn practical strategies for viewing challenging situations more clearly and respond in a more effective way.

Grief Therapy

I have have been working with individuals for the past 4 years through the various stages of grief. Grief counseling can certainly address some of the reactions as you process your new reality.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use empathy, non-judgmental listening/behavior to create a safe space for individuals to process, allow them to come to realizations, use open-ended questions and engagement in a non-directive way.
