Hello! My name is Alexa Stewart. I'm an LCSW located in Pennsylvania. I have been in this field for around 10 years. I have worked in a number different settings including in the home, community and schools. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading and being outdoors. I look forward to helping you progress towards your personal goals and aspirations!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will review the intake information (if completed prior to the session) and work on identifying any current challenges and what you would like to see change while in treatment. We will work together to identify possible treatment goals and ways to achieve these goals. Throughout the first session, and subsequent sessions, I will answer any questions or concerns that you may have about the treatment process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have many years of experience working with individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-esteem issues. I have also worked with families on improving attachment and decreasing conflict. I enjoy helping individuals gain insight into why they think or feel the way that they do, pinpoint any past experiences that may have contributed to their current struggles and how this had effected their relationships with others and their own mental health. Regardless of the reason, the feelings and the thoughts that one has are valid and real. Once an individual understands why something is or is not happening, they are able to begin to initiate the necessary changes to have the life that they want.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The most common treatment modality that I utilize is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on assisting the individual in identifying the issues that need addressed, identifying any thoughts and feelings that may be negatively impacting the issues, and the process of working through them. CBT is also beneficial in identifying any maladaptive or negative behaviors that may be contributing factors to why an individual is having trouble successfully addressing these issues. Once an individual is able to identify the issue, address any negative contributing factors, then they can begin to reshape and replace the negative thoughts or feelings with positive ones. I have utilized this method to help individuals who struggle with depression and anxiety.

Psychodynamic

The second most common treatment modality that I utilize with individuals is Psychodynamic Therapy. Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on identifying any underlying root causes that are contributing to the individual's current challenges. Another key component of Psychodynamic Therapy is self-reflection. Self-reflection is utilized to unearth any unconscious thoughts or feelings that the individual may be unaware of, that may be affecting the individual's current behaviors. This approach can be used to help individuals understand how their past may be influencing their present behaviors, thoughts and feelings. I utilize this method with individuals who struggle with anxiety.
