Hi, I am a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I completed my master's degree through Grand Canyon University. I have been practicing for 7 years. I work with children aged 5 and up, teens, families and individuals. I work a lot with mood disorders and trauma and also with people who might need help dealing with stress or relationships. I am also comfortable working with people with a history of chronic mental illness.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session I will be assessing to best understand what your needs and goals are. Once I have a better understanding of your situation, then together we can come up with a plan to help you get where you want to be.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I became a therapist a bit later than most but my life experiences have been an asset. Many middle aged and older adults prefer to speak with someone in their age group as they will feel more understood.

My treatment methods

Gestalt

Gestalt is one of the Humanistic therapies, which is related to existential therapy. Gestalt focuses on the relationship between therapist and client and uses that as a laboratory in which to experiment with different ways of feeling and being. Though I do not use Gestalt Therapy exclusively, I am always focused on the connection and collaboration between client and therapist as the primary vehicle for growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use a type of CBT called Neuroscience Informed CBT for Anxiety which uses CBT skills combined with information about how the nervous system works in order to get control of negative thought spirals and reduce symptoms.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I use a particular type of IFS called the Structural Dissociation Model. This model is my primary method of treating trauma, whether it is for PTSD or Dissociative Disorders. The main premise is that you have a logical part of yourself that can problem solve and you have traumatized parts, such as fight or flight, and others that can temporarily take over and cause problems. This therapy is about getting control of those traumatized parts so that the logical part of you is more in charge rather than just reacting to triggers.

Play Therapy

I use play therapy with younger children and sometimes even with teens as a vehicle for communication. It is often easier for kids and teens to communicate while doing an activity together. Also play with younger children is a way to role play and try out different behaviors as well as to process emotions.

Family Therapy

I use family therapy when a parent brings their child in for care as a way to facilitate communication and help both the parent and child build skills that will help them between sessions. With younger children, my focus is more on helping the parent to help the child. With older children or teens the focus might be more on giving them a voice and facilitating communication between parent and child.
