PMHNP, 7 years of experience
Feeling like it's time to explore medication? You're in the right place. Hi, I'm Corey, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. I help adults across Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida find clarity and confidence in their mental health treatment plan. Whether you're exploring it for the first time, seeking a second opinion, or looking to optimize your current treatment, I'm here to help you navigate your options and find the right path forward. My process is collaborative and straightforward. We'll start by exploring the nuances of your current experience, then delve into your personal history to understand the full context. This holistic view allows us to make informed, effective decisions about your care—together. For those who like the details, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University and my psychiatric nurse practitioner degree from Northern Kentucky University. My background also includes six years as a registered nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where I cared for patients with complex medical and behavioral needs, along with extensive training in community mental health, integrative medicine, and psychotherapy. Please note: I am not currently accepting new patients whose primary need is ADHD management. To learn more, please visit me at www.lozierhealth.com
First and foremost, I will dedicate extensive time getting to know you as an individual—your unique history, lifestyle, and the symptoms you're currently experiencing. Then, we will go back to your early childhood and work our way up to your present history, bringing context to how you're wired. In essence, we won't simply ignore the "Check Engine" light; instead, we will lift the hood and thoroughly examine what's going on. With this comprehensive understanding, we can personalize a treatment plan that's best for you.
I have the ability to make people I just met feel like we've been lifelong friends. I balance my sincerity and professional demeanor with a sense of humor and wit. I deeply care about helping people live happy and meaningful lives, and I understand that means different things to different people. I will work alongside you, cheer you on, research on your behalf, and keep at it until we've met your goals.
While our sessions are deeply supportive and incorporate elements of relational therapy, CBT, and lifestyle coaching, my primary role is distinct from that of a weekly talk therapist. The frequency of our meetings is guided by the clinical needs of medication management—monitoring its effectiveness, addressing any side effects, and making adjustments as your life and symptoms evolve. We'll use our time to check in on life stressors and work through challenges, always with your well-being at the center. To ensure the safest care, my telehealth practice is NOT the best fit for client with active substance use, severe psychosis, or those seeking controlled substances (ex. stimulants, benzodiazepines) for anxiety and ADHD management. These needs are better served by specialized, in-person teams.
In my practice, I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) by helping clients identify and challenge cognitive distortions and unhelpful beliefs that contribute to their difficulties. I work collaboratively with clients to develop more balanced and realistic thoughts, promoting healthier coping strategies and adaptive behaviors. Through targeted interventions and homework assignments, clients learn to apply these new skills in their daily lives and develop a greater sense of control over their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
In my practice, I utilize relational therapy by placing a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for healing and change. I actively engage with clients to build a trusting and collaborative alliance, fostering a safe space for exploration and growth. By exploring the patterns, emotions, and dynamics within the therapeutic relationship, I help clients gain insights into their relational patterns outside of therapy and support them in developing healthier ways of relating and connecting with others.
In my practice, I employ psychoeducation therapy to educate clients on the intricate connection between physical and mental health. By providing comprehensive information about their conditions, including their physical and psychological reactions, I empower clients to understand the interplay between their mind and body. This knowledge equips them to actively participate in their treatment, make informed decisions, and engage in self-care practices that promote holistic well-being.
