I'm Ben Miller, Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been working in mental health for over six years. I have a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Houston, am certified as CBT Competent and trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My style is collaborative and direct, which means I won't be telling you what to want or how to live your life, but I will be honest about tools that may be helpful for you. It's ultimately up to you what kind of life you want to live. I'm here you help you find a reason to hope again, to not give up. No matter what your previous experience in therapy has been, I believe that you can get better. My job is to help you transform your life into one that is worth living, one that aligns with your dreams. It doesn't matter how much you've tried and failed before; things can still get better, and I can help you get there.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we'll work together to explore the issues bringing you to therapy. I'll be guiding you through the structure of cognitive behavioral therapy, learning about the concerns you'd like to work on, and teaching you about how recovery will look. We'll collaborate to create a plan to determine what you want to get out of therapy and how you'll know when you're ready to move on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am good at exploring the ins and outs of your concerns, providing new perspectives and insights to help you see things in a different light, and coaching you toward taking action to make things better in a manageable way.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with my clients, though I integrate small amounts of other modalities, such as Narrative Therapy. CBT is a research-supported approach that helps you recognize the connections between how you think, feel, and act, and then implement changes to improve your life.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

I treat suicidal thoughts and behaviors using cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention. In this approach, we collaborate to help keep you safe, to address the factors that led to previous suicidal action, and work on solving the problems at the core of your suicidal thoughts.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I use cognitive processing therapy to treat PTSD. This is a 12-session protocol where the goal is not to relive the trauma, but rather to identify and correct limiting beliefs that have changed as a result of the trauma you experienced.
