Hi there! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based out of Santa Cruz, California. I'm passionate about helping folks improve their mental health and well-being so that they can live better lives. My background is in social work and counseling support for older adults and their families who were facing the many challenges of aging and serious illness. This has informed my current work - supporting all adults 18 and older, both Virtually and In-Person, who are struggling with a variety of difficult issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, coping, and life transitions. I believe that we all have the power to improve our lives at any age!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, after a brief introduction and reviewing consents, we'll dive into what your goals and expectations are for therapy, as well as some of your history and current landscape. As this is our first time meeting, I'll be trying to get a sense of you, and you of me, so that we can decide if we'd like to work together. If this is a good match for both of us, we can schedule more sessions. If not, we can work to clarify what you might be looking for and I can help point you in a better direction. Once we commit to working together, I'll spend a few sessions getting to know you, and we'll start to talk about specific issues that you'd like to work on. I believe that the best work happens with some time and trust built between therapist and client - if you are hoping for an overnight fix, I'm probably not a match for you. However, if you are willing to look within, be vulnerable, and try some new things, you can expect our work together to support you in lasting change for the better.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been told that I have a calming presence, and people feel at ease in opening up to me. Truth is, I love to hear peoples stories and listen deeply with genuine interest. I am naturally collaborative, open-minded, creative, non-judgemental, and honest with my feedback, and many clients appreciate these qualities in me. I've been studying hard in The School of Life and have amassed enough wisdom to be able to appreciate and hold, non-judgmentally, the stories and challenges of people of all ages and all backgrounds with care. I love people and this wild life, and this work is my way of giving back. If we lift one person up, we lift us all up!

My treatment methods

Integrative

My practice style is most closely aligned with an Integrative, or Eclectic approach. I utilize aspects of many approaches to start where clients are at, and support them to meet their goals from numerous angles - emotional, historical, behavioral, cognitive, creative, spiritual, physical, practical, et cetera. I remain flexible in providing specific support modalities tailored for peoples personal styles to understand themselves, gain new insights and perspectives, and explore themselves so that they come up with their own effective solutions.

Positive Psychology

My deep belief is that people have everything within to create change for themselves and increase well-being. My work is to support clients to elevate themselves so that they can live their best life, create meaning, and connect more deeply to their resilience and strengths. If we are willing to work for it, we all have potential to increase our understanding, self-care, gratitude, positive habits, and tap into better versions of ourselves.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've been trained in numerous more structured modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Grief Counseling, Attachment Styles, and utilize aspects of these modalities in my work with clients.

Grief Therapy

Many years of my career have been spent working with older adults doing grief care for clients who were facing their own transitions, personal losses, and losses of loved ones. I have translated this into care for clients facing all sorts of transitions in life - moves, changing jobs, separation from partners, loss of health, and grief from deaths.

Humanistic

It is very important to me that I am a good therapeutic match with clients, and that we form a strong therapeutic alliance with trust, honesty, and unconditional positive regard as our base. From a space of deep listening and empathy, I work to help clients gain insight, understand habits and behaviors, work towards acceptance of their circumstances, and gain tools towards greater health.
