LCSW, 25 years of experience
As a holistic, existential, and compassionate individual, I provide guidance, mentorship, discussion, and a collaborative experience in a safe space. Over the course of 20+ years, I have been blessed and honored to travel along the journey of life with many individuals of all ages, as well as couples, groups, and families, of diverse and multicultural populations. I met many of these individuals while working in various contexts, such as a federally-qualified community health center in Worcester, Massachusetts, a wilderness therapy program in northern Maine, alternative schools (including a private, alternative Buddhist high school), hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, and private practice. I specialize in relationship issues (Gottman method, Imago therapy), ADHD, PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, and grief and loss, as well as have extensive experience working with global multicultural populations. Skills in writing and research were laboriously (!) honed in my PhD program at Bryn Mawr College and led to several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals, as well as opportunities to present my original qualitative research studies with a focus on social justice for marginalized and vulnerable populations, at national conferences, such as the American Public Health Association (APHA), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR). Some of my personal and professional experiences are chronicled in my non-fiction book on ADHD, Fragments: Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder (published by Routledge, available on Amazon). I have also taught as a full-time university faculty lecturer for a decade and this experience contributes to a didactic (psychoeducational) approach with clients.
Many people are understandably anxious prior to a first session. As indicated from feedback from clients on my profile, I am warm (client-centered), validating, and empathic. During our first session, we will explore some of your life history and presenting issues. I offer guidance to help you improve communication in relationships, identify repressed emotions and unmet needs, and understand and recognize how symptoms of substance use, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, depression, grief and loss, and anxiety affect you. Between sessions, I encourage individuals to utilize coping skills, read recommended literature, nurture creative expression, and self-reflect, all of which may help restore serenity to your life, improve mood, regulate emotion, enhance relationships, increase self-awareness, and help attain your desired goals.
I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating the complex and often overwhelming experiences of relationship challenges, PTSD, trauma, ADHD, grief, depression, anxiety, and addiction. I believe that healing is a deeply personal journey. I approach each session with empathy, respect, and a commitment to your unique path toward growth and recovery. Whether you’re struggling with the weight of past trauma, trying to manage the challenges of ADHD, coping with loss, or feeling weighed down by anxiety or depression, I am here to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore, process, and heal. I offer an eclectic blend of therapeutic approaches for relationship challenges (Gottman method, Imago therapy), ADHD, PTSD, trauma, grief, substance use, depression, and anxiety, using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), harm-reduction and moderation management, mindfulness meditation, ecotherapy, somatic therapy, attachment theory, and creative expression. I understand that every person’s story is unique, and I work collaboratively with each client to develop personalized strategies and tools for overcoming obstacles and achieving lasting change. Together, we will work on building resilience, increasing self-awareness, and developing healthy coping mechanisms that empower you to take control of your mental and emotional well-being. If you’re ready to take the first step toward a healthier, more balanced life, I’m here to help. I look forward to supporting you in creating the change you seek!

Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps to restructure thought processes, including the recognition of repeated negative thought patterns that do not lead to positive outcomes in life.
Psychodynamic therapy helps to understand how the past impacts our current level of functioning, such as communication in relationships, emotion regulation, and the types of romantic relationships that individuals have.
Mindfulness and meditation can include visualizations and breath work and help improve mood, emotion regulation, focus and concentration.
Understanding your attachment style, such as insecure and secure attachment, can help you identify past patterns in romantic relationships and provide an explanation as to why you are attracted to certain people.

Dr. Amy Stein has listened without judgment, taken the time to get to know me and my needs, helped me develop coping strategies, I feel heard and validated, my goals have been addressed and updated as needed. She helped me find peace as I go through medical trauma, anxiety, and struggle with ADHD. I can be my true authentic self during therapy sessions.
