Diahann JohnBaptiste is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 10 years of experience. Diahann specializes in working with teens and adults through emotional issues, family conflict, grief and loss, trauma (sexual assault, abuse, or harassment), anxiety, depression, attention deficit (ADHD), bipolar disorder, mood disorders, spirituality, substance use, and women's issues. Diahann completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of the U.S. Virgin Islands in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands, and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. She also completed training for a Certified Case Manager in Child Protective Services with the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS). Diahann is passionate about helping her clients heal from life experiences that have left them hurt and feeling hopeless. My particular interest in counseling stems from my desire and ability to see the good potential in people. I appreciate and respect a person’s resilience and optimism to seek help in counseling. Resilience requires persistence, so counseling is a good opportunity for people to reflect on their past experiences and explore their feelings and values. Clients place a great deal of vulnerability and responsibility in seeking help from professional counselors.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I will go over my therapeutic style and approach. I believe it's important to establish a solid therapeutic foundation for and with my clients, so they know what to expect.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think therapy is not the easiest thing to commit to, especially if you come from a dysfunctional family, suffered abuse or developed trust issues. Sharing your deficits, fears and vulnerabilities with a stranger is not easy. I am well equipped to provide the counseling you desire integrating bible principles into your treatment plan. I have experience in community-based, and faith-bath counseling which have given me a broader reach in working with a variety of individuals experiencing various challenges. My biggest strengths is in helping clients address issues related to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress and life decisions, coping skills, grief, anger management, trauma and traumatic history, parenting, and spiritual direction. Therefore, I am fond of helping clients change their frame of mind, thereby improving their experience of life. I appreciate providing support and guidance when it may be hard for anyone else to help.

The core principles of cognitive behavioral therapy is psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking, and learned patterns of unhelpful behavior. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns, learn to recognize one’s distortions in thinking that are creating problems, and then to reevaluate them in light of reality.

Motivational Interviewing
