Hello, My name is Erika and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I provide counseling services to individuals that are wanting to address some of life's problems that can become overwhelming. When you come to my counseling room I will be respectful, genuine and do my best to create an environment that fosters safety and peace. Life's ups and downs can be difficult to transition alone, therapy doesn't have to be something else that is difficult or a chore. My goal as a therapist is to see my clients as unique individuals with personal stories, strengths, and challenges. I don't utilize a one-size-fits-all approach but use skills and techniques that are appropriate based on who you are and the goals you have for treatment. Look forward to working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session can be described as an introduction. I like to get to know who you are and it is also a time for my clients to see if we would be a good match working together. In an effort to take away the anxiety of not knowing what I'll ask, one of my questions is "what brings you to therapy today?" I listen to your responses and from their we are able to set up goals of what you want to achieve by coming to therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have a passion for learning and am frequently attending trainings to improve my current skills and learn new ones. The overall goal is to reduce your symptoms of anxiety, depression, or trauma and my job is to be familiar with appropriate skills to do so.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT allows us to use an evidence based approach to help reach the goals you are having. Sometime those goals are difficult to reach because of our thoughts. CBT allows us to identify what those thoughts are and learn skills to actively combat them and reach a healthier lifestyle.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

CPT much like CBT allows us to focus on how our thoughts affect our day to day. CPT is geared towards making progress when we are "stuck" in our trauma and work towards healing.

Collaborative Management and Assessment of Suicidality (CAMS)

CAMS is an evidenced based approach that has shown to help identify the sources of suicidal thoughts. I use it as a framework to help decrease suicidal thoughts.

Eclectic

What does this word mean to you, it means that I take the experiences I've had and the education I gained through various modalities and trainings to the counseling room. My approach is not one-size-fits all, it allows me to be flexible and do something that works for the individual I am meeting with. You are a person, and by being eclectic I can use tools from different modalities to help you reach the goals you have for therapy.
