Welcome! My name is Rafael Gomez, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based out of Los Angeles, California. Coming to therapy can be a great, if not a daunting step to take at any point in our lives. Oftentimes there is so much noise that it is incredibly difficult to identify the things that matter to us. I aim to help you reconnect with that part of yourself that seems to be missing. If you are feeling lost, anxious about your direction in life, or just not as connected with those around you, I am here to help. I specialize in the treatment of men who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and relationship issues. Additionally, I have extensive experience helping struggling parents manage the stressors unique to their situations and ultimately helping them reconnect with their individuality.
During our first session, we can expect to spend much of our time sharing what we have been feeling before coming to therapy. I'll be asking questions to better understand your experience and to help us get a sense of the direction we can take. This first session is for us to build a connection and shared understanding of how we can work together. Throughout this whole process, you are the expert of your lived experience. I know that therapy can be a vulnerable space, and I hope for us to build trust and openness for us to work on the things that matter to you the most. In our therapy sessions, I do my best to facilitate a space where you can explore and delve deeper into your true self and begin to act in a congruent manner and line with your values.
I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you and me understand your concerns and plan the direction to take in our therapy. With a mixture of mindfulness, interpersonal strategies, and creativity, I help my clients begin to bring their true selves forward.
I've worked with men of many walks of life on a variety of issues specific to them. Men typically suffer in silence or in a manner that often puts them in a double bind, which can lead to relationship concerns, difficulties with our emotions, and an overall feeling of dissatisfaction in our lives. I find that providing a space for men to have an opportunity to express and reconnect with their closed-off parts can begin to help men live their lives in a more fulfilling manner.
I am adept at connecting with young and middle aged individuals who are struggling with relationship issues, life transitions, grief and loss, parenting concern, and trauma.
