What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, clients can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere as we embark on our journey towards healing and growth. I'll create a space where you can comfortably share what brings you to therapy and what you're hoping to achieve. As we get to know each other, I'll listen with empathy and understanding, seeking to gain a deeper insight into your history, experiences, and current concerns. While we may briefly touch on diagnostic considerations, our primary focus will be on understanding your unique needs and goals. Together, we'll collaboratively craft a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your preferences and values. Whether we're exploring coping strategies, processing past experiences, or enhancing your overall well-being, I'll be by your side as a supportive and relatable partner in your journey. Our sessions will take place through Telehealth virtual appointments, offering convenience and flexibility without compromising the professionalism and confidentiality of our interactions. My treatment methods

EMDR

At Somatic Women Your EMDR therapist, trained in other complimentary modalities, conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. Each person's healing journey is unique, and the integration of other modalities into your EMDR sessions allows for a personalized and holistic approach. There is no fixed timeline or predetermined outcome in therapy, honoring the individuality of your experiences and progress.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, commonly known as ACT, is a form of psychotherapy that encourages individuals to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. The goal of ACT is not to eliminate difficult feelings but to be present with what life brings and to move toward valued behavior. ACT's mindfulness practices and defusion techniques can be seamlessly woven into EMDR sessions. Before engaging in targeted processing with EMDR, you'll learn valuable coping skills and mindfulness techniques from ACT. These skills enhance emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, and foster a sense of safety and empowerment. These techniques enhance present-moment awareness, reduce cognitive fusion with distressing thoughts, and promote a non-judgmental attitude towards inner experiences. In my practice, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with somatic or body-based modalities to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to treatment. CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, while ACT emphasizes acceptance of thoughts and feelings combined with commitment to personal values. These cognitive and behavioral techniques are complemented by somatic methods, which address the physical manifestations of stress and trauma by fostering a deeper connection between mind and body. This integrated approach allows for tailored, effective care that supports both emotional and physical healing.

Multicultural

As an Afro-Caribbean Asian American therapist, my treatment methods integrate multiculturalism, gender-affirming care, cultural sensitivity, and a feminist approach to provide comprehensive and inclusive support. This involves recognizing and incorporating your cultural background into therapy, using culturally relevant practices that resonate with your values and traditions. I emphasize gender-affirming care by validating your gender identity, offering supportive resources, and advocating for your needs. Cultural sensitivity is key, as I actively listen to and respect your cultural norms, ensuring a non-judgmental space for you to express your true self. From a feminist perspective, I focus on empowerment, helping you build confidence and addressing societal factors such as patriarchy and discrimination that impact your well-being. My goal is to offer a tailored, empowering therapeutic experience that honors your unique identity and supports your journey towards healing and self-discovery.

Mind-body approach

I employ a clinical, professional, and welcoming approach to treatment that includes Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a polyvagal-informed perspective, and mind-body therapeutic techniques. EFT helps to address emotional patterns and improve interpersonal relationships, while a polyvagal-informed approach focuses on regulating the nervous system to enhance emotional and physiological well-being. Mind-body therapeutic methods are used to connect physical sensations with emotional experiences, promoting holistic healing. I integrate various therapeutic modalities to create a customized care plan tailored to your unique needs, ensuring comprehensive and effective support throughout your healing journey.

Gottman method

As an Afro-Caribbean Asian American therapist, I provide couples therapy using a comprehensive approach that integrates various therapeutic techniques and body-based methods. My practice is trauma-informed, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. I focus on enhancing relationship dynamics through improved communication and emotional connection, while also encouraging acceptance of thoughts and feelings and commitment to shared values. By addressing trauma and its physical manifestations, I promote holistic healing. My approach helps to reshape negative patterns and improve emotional intimacy. Additionally, my practice is deeply rooted in multiculturalism, gender-affirming care, cultural sensitivity, and a feminist perspective, ensuring that your unique identities and experiences are respected and validated throughout the therapeutic process.
