Hello there! Patients generally call me as Dr. Erick. I am double board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and a Family Health Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) with a post-doctoral graduate degree from Brandman University (now University of Massachusetts Global). I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and persons aged 65 years or older, in multiple settings, facing various complex mental health issues, like depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, trauma, and mood disorders just to name a few. Besides running my private practice, I am appointed to the Department of Psychiatry and a top NYC hospital. I am also appointed to the Department of Medicine at a leading US hospital where I am engaged in the business of serving others, one patient at a time.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Taking this important step towards your mental health could be nerve racking so my plan for our first session is to meet you were they are on their continuum of care. Were you are most comfortable. We do not have to do everything on day-one. You can expect for us to start with the very basic then gradually walk our way to a thorough and comprehensive evaluation. I would like to gain a better understanding of who you are before we start working together, collaboratively to help you achieve the best version of yourself.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I approach each patient as a unique individual and tailor the patient's care accordingly (no cookie cutters here). I use a combination of talk therapy and medication management as needed to ensure well rounded treatment. Most importantly, you can speak freely without fear of judgement or shame

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is really simply a type of talk therapy that revolves around a few core principles. Psychological issues are partly based on unhealthy patterns of thinking, unhelpful behaviors, and problematic core beliefs that are the central ideas about yourself and the world. During CBT therefore we will take a close look at your emotions and thoughts. You will come to understand how your thoughts affect your actions. Through CBT, you can unlearn negative thoughts and behaviors and learn to adopt healthier thinking patterns and habits.

Psychoeducation

Using this approach, we will combines the elements of cognitive-behavior therapy, group therapy, and education. The basic aim is to provide the you and your families knowledge about various facets of the illness and its treatment so that they can work together with mental health professionals for a better overall outcome.
